I'm Gonna Leave The Stage!

April 17, 2010 | Music

Le Freak Records will soon re-release Elvis' February 15th 1973 D/S , originally issued on a now hard to find 1992 CD : Las Vegas Dinner Show. This is the (in)famous concert where Elvis walked off-stage in the middle of singing "Fever" for 18 minutes, leaving J.D. Sumner and The Stamps singing whatever they could to fill the show while Elvis is being off-stage. Elvis returns , performs "Can't Help Falling In Love" and suddenly decides to continue the show. He does 5 more songs , ( including "Can't Help Falling In Love" for the second time ! ) and closes the show.
The producers claim to have improved the sound quality significantly. As a bonus they added 3 extra tracks from the previously unreleased February 21 D/S .This show wasn't available in any form previously , not even on CD-R. Even better , this material was taken from a first generation booth recording and the sound quality is excellent !

Ciscoking,i think they meant the 1973 February 21 D/S. As far as i know this show has not been released still. Or is it out on a CD-R?

Just checked Keith Flynn's site and it seems that the feb. 21 D/S is indeed exist in the form of a booth recording, but it's still unreleased. No other info (track-list etc.) is given, though.

So, no new tape. They just put it on the PC, pushed some buttons and that's it?

Sounds like an interesting show. Does anyone know, why Elvis left the stage? Was it a health issue? Was he annoyed at something? I don't remember the story behind this show. In any event, the man worked hard and left an amazing legacy for the world to enjoy.

Elvis says he has the flu and left the stage for recovering..after having announced it clearly..he sounds tired and flad throughout..granted.. ..what I don`t understand is why he continued after Can`t Help Falling In Love with songs that are difficult to sing. When he does Can`t Help... the second time he announces it as if he couldn`t remember that he had sung it only minutes before. which leads me to my second thought..Elvis sounds tired, weak at the beginning till he aborts the show..well it was a DS and we know that Elvis had just gotten up..this could indicate that he needed something to get in the gears...he sounds halfway asleep ..when he came back on stage and the medication began to work he deliveres Polk Salad Annie and Trilogy as if he was never ill...just a thought...

If I remember correctly, Elvis was sick and had laryngitis. You can clearly hear it in his voice. His Midnight show that night was cancelled, as was the previous night's M.S.

i think this will be an excellent release if the sound is good. Also, It's a very nice song lineup because he rarely sang polk salad annie in 1973. Actually, other than this concert, I don't think he did sing polk salad annie.

The liner notes on the first release ("Las Vegas Dinner Show") claim that Elvis was ending the show with "Can't Help Falling in Love", but when he saw how sad the audience was, he decided to stay on and try to sing a few more songs, which he did. It's an interesting show.

Wayup,Straight Arrow,Memory and the other labels missed the opportunity to re-release this very interesting and unusual show. It's their mistake. Now somebody else will do it. Ok,the cover is indeed not great. So what? At least the show will be available for new fans. For the first time after 18 years!!!

FLY-TROUBLE!: I was speaking about an awful cover solely... not about the show, sound quality or other labels missed opportunities ;-)

""why"" did he leave the stage, anyway ?? Someone knows ? Walk that lonesome road is just breattakingly fantastic...wish EP didn't make his version of it/together with JD+Voice of course (I have original CD...unfortunately then the quality of this audience rec. was not too good.) Is the quality better now ??
