I Did It My Way

March 05, 2005 | Music
Memory Records will soon release the CD "I Did It my Way". Here you have excerpts from the booklets and track listing.

Elvis finished the year of 1976 with a string of inspired, high-energy performances culminating in a fantastic New Years Eve celebration in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This renewed vitality gave hope for the future. However, during January of 1977, the state of affairs became worse than ever before. Probably due to personal problems with Ginger, Elvis cancelled an already scheduled recording session in Nashville as he was in no mood for recording. The February tour started in the southern states and some fans were shocked when they saw Elvis during the first few shows. The second tour of the year was cut short after the Alexandria, Louisiana concert on the 30th of March due to illness.

We have chosen a somewhat typical show from the third tour: Green Bay, Wisconsin April 28, 1977. There are no signs that the singer is overmedicated, "out of it" or vocally weak. Rather the opposite, Elvis’ voice is strong and he is in a cheerful mood. It is apparent that Elvis is physically tired as he asks Sherrill Nielsen to sing his two numbers rather early in the show and there are no traditional power ballads, i.e. "Hurt" or "Unchained Melody" before the show closing. It was a 1976/1977 “tradition” that Elvis butcher the majority of his 50s oldies, but this evening he gives equal effort to all songs: rock, ballad and country. Among the best performances of this Green Bay show are the semi-autobiographical "You Gave Me A Mountain" and an especially poignant version of "My Way".

Is this a soundboard or a audience recording ?

is this an Elvis album , or a Sherrill Nielsen and Elvis band memebers doing solo rifts album. I havent heard it yet, as i think it hasnt been released yet - but it seems like one ill pass up. Except im a sucker for Early Morning Rain.

I think it is unfortunate that this web-site and many others give so much space to import recordings. BMG are doing a great job with the FTD label.

Another one I can pass easily. But it is remarkable how they can come up with such positive remarks, just to sell a CD :-).

Mofoca, are you drunk? First comes April, then comes June. Ton, of course it's an audience recording. Same goes for Let Me Be There. Why do you ask?
CD King wrote on March 06, 2005
Because of it's audience recording - I won't be interested. It'll be a pain to my ears and a waste of my time.
Ton Bruins wrote on March 06, 2005
Because a audience recording doesn't interest me at all. Looking at the tracklist it's not a very interesting 77 show anyway. And there are interesting 77 shows, but not this one I think.

I surely buy this one cause this is an unreleased show from 1977. I´m looking forward to the My Way version and Polk Salad Annie cause they say they were fine versions. Indeed there is nothing special in this show but that doesn´t matter much to me. TCB.

Yes, It's good to have newly available Elvis material. Yes, Elvis will sound great as usual. But, NO THANKS! I'm sick of hearing the same songs.

I don't mind hearing the same songs IF they are Soundboard recordings.

if and when you hear elvis sing live there is no one near him . donny osmond on the parkinson show said that elvis had em in the palm of his hand as so he did . but what a waste of talent he should have sung more and varied songs and he had so many to sing from . a wiggles driving in the melbourne grand prix ( i am listening to them on the radio now ) said that he was listening to elvis johnny be good and it got him going . strange world isnt it . one of the wiggles a elvis fan .

This is a great show in a great sound quality : very good audience recording !

Yes, it is the same songs again, but as Elvis' last recording session was 29 years ago what else can we expect? It's either different versions of the same songs or nothing. I know lots of fans think that there is a goldmine of unheard songs on tape somewhere, but I personally doubt it.
