Humes High School Yearbooks Re-printed

April 18, 2005 | Book
Fifty years have passed since Elvis' high school graduation. Elvis loved his alma mater and showed his appreciation on many occasions. He purchased football tickets to a local game for the students. He donated money for R.O.T.C. uniforms. He unexpectedly stopped by Humes high school during Father's Night and gave a brief performance. In the early years Elvis would stop by the school with Hollywood friends to visit students and his favourite teachers. The students of Humes high school returned Elvis' generosity in 1957 by dedicating that years annual to him.

The annual from 1953 (the year when Elvis graduated) was the first to be re-printed. But a short while ago was the 1957 one also reprinted.

It was neat writing our names on a blackboard in a classroom once frequented by Elvis in Humes High school. We were there during a school holiday 2002. Thanks to the black lady receptionist who gave us a personal tour of the school. They had a surprisingly small selection of Elvis stuff for sale. We settled on copies of his Diploma. Worth a visit if just for nostalgia, although it has changed a lot since Elvis attended. Jim of J B Tours Tupelo 662-842-0488 took us, and he arranged the tour.
