Heartbreak Hotel Makes Oklahoma Rock Song List

Elvis Presley's "Heartbreak Hotel" has made the short list for the official rock song of Oklahoma. The song was written by an Oklahoman, Mae Boren Axton. Ten songs have been chosen as finalists, all written or sung by Oklahomans. Other contenders include Three Dog Night's "Never Been to Spain," written by an Oklahoman; Leon Russell's "Home Sweet Oklahoma"; "After Midnight" by J.J. Cale; and "Do You Realize?" by the Flaming Lips. People can vote at the Web site oklahomarocksong.org, through November 15th. The winning song will be announced during the next legislative session.
