October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. One of the organization's programs to promote awareness is to encourage participants to light their properties in pink lights for the month of October. Graceland is proud to join this effort. For the month of October 2001, the white lights and multi-colored lights that normally illuminate the Graceland Mansion façade and front grounds will all be switched to pink bulbs. A Breast Cancer Awareness Month banner on the front of the stone wall that surrounds the mansion property will explain to passersby why there’s a pink glow around Graceland every night of October.
