September 28, 2006 | People
On Tuesday "George Klein Day" was celebrated in the city of Memphis. It was a special honor for the man known for his friendship with Elvis, his charity work and his long broadcast career. Klein was given a proclamation and a key to the city by Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton during a surprise meeting at the Peabody Hotel. Klein began his broadcast career back in 1957. He now hosts the tv show "Memphis Sounds". He also hosts a radio program on Sirius Satellite Radio (The Elvis Channel 13). Klein is also involved in a number of charities around the Mid-South.

I listened to Elvis radio today with GK talking about how he was "tricked" in going to the Town Hall to get permits when he was given the news. A great friend to the King and a huge asset to the Elvis legacy.
