Friday Chart Updates

February 04, 2005 | Music
The re-issue single "It's Now Or Never" entered the Irish Top 50 singles chart at #6 as the highest new entry. "One Night" dropped from #42 to #48 this week.

On Thursday Elvis still had a 10.000 copies lead in sales on the #2. The predictions for the UK #1 this Sunday are:
1 Elvis - Are You Lonesome Tonight? (25,903 copies)
2 Eminem - Like Toy Soldiers (17,253 copies)
3 Bryan McFadden/Delta Goodrem - Almost Here (17,070 copies)

The prediction for the UK Album Album chart lists "Love Elvis" at #10 (13,437 copies sold).

In the Netherlands two of Elvis' singles dropped from the Dutch Top 40 Chart, but "A Fool Such As I" just hangs on at #40.

It would be great to have Are you lonesome tonight? at #1

Well one can surely say that there is something going on if Elvis is not at N°1 on sunday. 10000 in the lead and only one day to go.

Still no sign of AYLT in the local HMV or Woolworths here in North Wales, yet Asda has lots in stock and all numbered in the 10,000's. I don't believe sales at Asda count towards the chart though do they? The Number 1 spot on the HMV singles display is filled with copies of That's all Right! By the way, be very careful if you try peeling off the 18#1's and barcode stickers, the laminated layer underneath is liable to come off with them.(So speaks the voice of experience ....Doooh!)

hmm 10,000 as of thursday , Ill still have to think that Eminem can make up that difference. I REALLY hope that AYLT gets to #1, but , can Elvis really beat Eminem in first week sales ? wow amazing if he does, keeping my fingers crossed, and toes, and eyes...

To see Elvis kick that snot-nosed imposter Marshall Mather's ass. Now that would be sweeter than sweet. It would prove what I have been saying all along: Eminem has no talent at all! He is a total corporate creation, a manufactured pop star, phony angst. But Eminem is really stealing off of black music. Eminem is a rip-off artist stealin off of black stars. I would love to see Elvis kick Eminem's ass! I would love to see Elvis go to town on Marshall's wimpy phony no-talent ass! There is a God after all! Take a good look at the trash can, Marshall, because that is where you is goin. Rock on!

Well Carl i don't like Eminem but i respect people who do buy his records. I don't like him because this has nothing to do with music to me. He is just saying something on and on and you keep hearing the same beat. But if young people buy his records that is OK to me, we will see if he can stand the test of time. That is what counts for me , if Elvis sells the most records this week he has to be number 1 and nobody els no matter what DJ's or radio or Tv makers have to say about it. The only thing i don't like is that he never get's a chance on radio or TV and that alone is wrong, radio and Tv makers need to learn they don't have to spell out to people what they should or should not buy. They have to give a fair chance to all artists, the public will decide what they like to hear. The other thing i don't like is, BMG should know by now they should get these Elvis records in stores, but still a lot of fans can not find a copy so if Elvis is not number 1 than BMG is also a major factor why he dit not get there.

Right so the crap about top of the pops broke the agreement with EPE about playing footage of elvis is total bull!! Just watched the Chart Show on ITV and Cat Deely has just announced the the wonderfull EPE wont let them use any Elvis footage either, how rediculous!! This has taken the enjoyment out of Elvis getting to the top, because of this no one is taking it serious, im off to play Green day now.

Elvis is no 1 with AYLT on the cd/uk charts.Lets hope he stays there I cant believe what Cat just said about ITV not being able to get permission to show Elvis. So its nothing to do with the BBC dispute then. They just dont want to show Elvis on British tv. God am i mad. I think i will be sending EPE another email

When the various TV shows announce that "The Elvis Estate will not allow us to show any footage" they never say the rest which should be "unless we pay them for it's use". Elvis has always been available to be used on TV but they stations have to pay to use it, in the same way that radio has to pay to play a record. They refuse to pay because they are used to modern artists having promotional videos available to be shown over and over again for free. For any fans living in London, the shops seem to have a lot more copies on their shelves. Both HMV's in Oxford Street have all of the CD's bar "Are You Lonesome Tonight". The also have copies of "A Fool Such As I" and "Are You Lonesome Tonight" on 10" vinyl. The two Virgin Megastores have a few, but not as many as HMV. All of the copies I have seen are numbered between 25,000 and 30,000, so they are newly produced stocks. Hopefully this will burst the ebay bubble and we can get back to doing what we have done for years, merely going out on a Monday and buying Elvis' new record.

Kilburn Tony - I think Todd said on here that EPE charge about $10,000 A MINUTE for use of Elvis footage, so there is absolutely no incentive for BBC to try and resolve the dispute is there? And why should ITV pay these sums when as you say they can play someone elses hit for virtually nothing? I'm sorry but its pure greed on EPE's part for me. This campaign had the opportunity to have ELVIS on our TV's virtually non stop for 4 months and spread the word (i sound like a preacher) to thousands out there. Think how many fans could be gained by watching clips of the '69 special, Aloha or TTWII on the chart shows, and use of the footage would also heavily promote these DVD's. We will never have this opportunity again to have Elvis on national TV so much, yet EPE just dont seem interested in compromising. How long will it be before the heavys from EPE come knocking on our doors and charging us extra for having the cheek to actually play these cd's that we've bought in front of other members of our household?!

Kilburn we rally dont need anyone defending these ediots, they have ruined this period which could have done so much for Elvis' image and could have brought so much enjoyment to the rest of us so please stop defending their rediculous behaviour, greedy money making fools.

Who in the earth is going to pay 10,000 dollars a minute to show Elvis footage on tv ? When they pay 500 pound to the other singers for one performance. And some of them do it for free. All EPE are interested in is money. All this publicity Elvis is getting and they dont want to do anything to help.Makes you wonder whos running that outfit.Lets hope Elvis can get to number one again this week with AYLT
