Follow That Dream Records - Update Rocking Across Texas

January 06, 2005 | Music
Here is the latest update on the Follow That Dream release "Rocking Across Texas".

Expected to be released March 1, 2005, is FTD’s next special book/CD combination entitled Rocking Across Texas. (Delayed from its originally announced release date of January 1.) The book is by Stanley Oberst. New stories, updated old stories and some especially rare photographs are featured. Accompanying the book will be two Elvis concert “soundboard” recordings (informally recorded from the concert sound system): the June 19, 1974 show in Amarillo, Texas and the July 3, 1976 show in Fort Worth, Texas. There’s also a short, previously unreleased 1960 interview recording with Elvis and his manager Colonel Tom Parker.

Big dissapointment. Especially Fort Worth show. Where is Shake a hand, Steamroller blues, Young and beautiful,Help me and Burning love, mentioned a few weeks ago ? The only reason to release 1976 concert is in my opinion - first - great sound quality, second - "special" song in the songlist of the concert. The songlist of the Fort Worth gig is only average. Tucson 76 was and is a winner ! Not only for including Danny boy but also for Help me, Help me make it... and Burning love. The only interesting thing here is Polk salad Annie. Sorry to say but it is not that I was waiting for.

Why will they release two Cds with the book ? Is one Cd not enough ? Do they want to get in the Book of Records ? This is too much !!! Ernst said at the beginning that there will be 3 Cds every year. And how many Cds we get in 5 years ? Too much !!! Ernst, please think about it !!! TCB.

Adam S. is right about the '76 show; only come up with such a show when Elvis sings a rare live version of some songs or the sound is more than excellent. Also I don't like the idea of this project with the two CD's and a book; Many fans cannot afford buying this one.

I'm not exactly thrilled with another show from 1976 with the usual songlist, but I haven't passed up an FTD concert yet and will not start with this one. I could do without the book though.
