EPE On That's All Right Certification

July 03, 2004 | Music
On the 2nd To None message board we found this posting on the Gold certification of "That's All Right":

"That's All Right is RIAA certified and it will be presented to the estates of Elvis, Bill and Sam and to Scotty at the Sun Studio event on Monday.

The single didn't sell very much in the 1950's. It sold well past gold status over the years that it was available as single, but it was tough for BMG to pull together enough actual documentation required by the RIAA. But, they made a great, heroic effort and got it done. We're all very proud.

(And I might add, so are we! This will be Elvis' 52nd Gold Single and 149th Gold Record)."

Louise, don't forget the 68 Special is delayed a week. You won't be able to pick it up at HMV on Monday unfortunately.

I'll be out on Monday geting my copy of 'Thats All Right Mama' Then I'll look forward to what I wish BMG would release as the E3 'cd' Elvis Presley. E3... 50-60-70's. Three decades of Elvis songs. No singles, but songs that would have been big hits had they been released as a single. What are the fans view. Think about it. E1 was the #1's [well most of them]. E2 the second choice, but second to none. So why not E3, the three Elvis decades off great songs but NO previous singles, 1/ One sided love affair 2/ Shake rattle & roll [alt take] 3/ Reddy teddy 4/ Baby I don't care 5/ I got a woman 6/ Let me 7/ How do you think I feel 8/ Young & beautiful [alt take] 9/ New Orleans 10/ So glad your mine 11/ Like a baby 12/ Soldier boy 13/ No more [alt take] 14/ Fountain of love 15/ Memphis Tennessee 16/ Tomorrow is a long time 17/ Just call me lonesome 18/ Wearin'that loved on look 19/ A little bit of green 20/ And the grass won't pay no mind 21/ The fool 22/ Bridge over trouble water [alt take] 23/ I washed my hands in muddy water 24/ For lovin' me 25/ I got a feelin' in my body 26/ Love coming down 27/ Walk a mile in my shoes [live] 28/ You gave me a mountain [live] 29/ Where do I go from here 30/ How great thou art

hi PJG. In answer to your remarks. Firstly, sorry for the confussion. When I said E1 was nearly all the #1's, I ment that Elvis has MORE that those that were on E1. Even BMG agree now that it was imposible to fit ALL Elvis's #1 onto 1 CD. Trust we understand my comments. And as for E3. I think it would be great for todays public to hear how Elvis moved with the time's in his recordings over the decades. That's All Right. Isn't it.

PJGois I think DDH was talking about the singles that got to number in the UK only. I am not sure if Thats all right will get to number one in the uk though but it would be great if it did. Good idea about another cd release DDH.

I cannot wait until Monday to go to my local HMV store where I have ordered the 68 comeback special and also collect the single Thats allright mama which I am sure will go to number one in the UK charts and give elvis his 19th number one and prove once again that he is the king.

That's all right will be Elvis' 20th certification this year by the RIAA. However; I'd like to ask DDH who wrote some comments on E1 not all being #1's. What he or she meant by that, if possible? On elvis australia, you can find that Elvis has 19 number ones on Cash Box Charts. Cash box and Billboard where the 2 biggest national charts at the time. Cash Box went out of business in the 80's. There was no difference between the both of them, they where the biggest. A number 1 was a 1 number. In the US, elvis had 19 with billboard and 19 with Cashbox. Burning love and In the Ghetto, where the only 2 not on Billboard but on Cash Box. and add the British singles and you have 30. Hope this helps as far as the US singles. Where all an Elvis family and we should always help one another.

As an Elvis fan for many years, it has always frustrated me to no end to see mainstream FM radio stations totally ignore Elvis and his contributions to the world of music. Except for Oldies format stations, no one else in the business ever acknowledges Elvis musically. Case in point: on July 5th, I scanned local stations in the Toronto (Canada) area. The only ones to play "That's All Right" were two oldies stations. Radio programmers today, in my opinion, shows very little imagination when it comes to showcasing the diversity of current music, let alone acknowledge someone like Elvis. It is as if Elvis existed in a vacuum!! This is why it is very important for BMG to continue to release quality compilations like E1 and 2nd to None. So, the idea of an E3 is great. This is the only way the present generation will continue to be exposed to the music of Elvis and groove to it like so many of us have in the past. And it really isn't about another "gold record" -- honestly, who cares? No one will EVER catch up to any of Elvis' milestones anyway. It is about making sure that the beautiful music of Elvis Aron Presley lives on and continues to bring happiness to a planet that surely needs it now more than ever. (How about a remix of "Let Yourself Go" to promote an E3?)
