Elvis To Appear On Idols

Idol co-producers CKX and FremantleMedia, Fox Broadcasting, and acid-tongued judge Simon Cowell agreed to keep the series going for at least four seasons starting with this season. Fox agreed to pay a license fee of $18 million for this year, growing to $35.5 million in 2009.

CKX, which also licenses Elvis Presley, plans some corporate synergy. "Elvis will be making an appearance on this year's series," Sillerman says.

Reigning American Idol and hit-making music star Carrie Underwood toured Graceland on January 12, 2006.

I would hope that the 'appearance on this year's series' would be an indication that MAYBE some of Elvis music can be used. The people on the show have cataloges and song lists to choose from. So far, none of Elvis songs were allowed to be covered. With the obvious official connection of CKX/EPE and Idol they should want to include his music for a little extra Elvis exposure. It does not mean we are looking for an impersonators contest, just normal people singing Elvis songs. MAYBE it will make a viewer take notice and go and buy the REAL thing.

LAst year with Canadain Idol, they did an Elvis Show, where they, who ever was left, went to Memphis to vist Graceland and Sun Studios and such. They then all sang two each of Elvis. The show in itself was ok, but the singing was terrible, they really recked the songs. I feel it shouldn't be done on American Idol. Mind you this is my personal opinion and will surley not be shared by many people.

I don't have a problem with "Elvis" being on American Idol. 35 million tuned in for the first show Jan. 17th. Those are amazing numbers and at this stage of Elvis' career that type of exposure can only help. Like him or hate him, Simon is a sharp cookie in the music industry.

its so sad that Elvis is not as popular in the US, like he is in europe and other countries. In the US,they think of elvis as some vegas act from the 70's which is disgusting. His records dont even get any airplay. The American music industry should be ashamed of themselves.

I want to address 2 things, first Elvis being more popular in Europe than the USA I don't think you can count on that He's our boy and we are happy he made it so big world wide fame. I am 28 have been an avid fan and collector for 20 years and our boy has popped #1 for the Red White & Blue with the 50th year release of Heartbreak Hotel. Elvis was the most patriotic American in the world. On the other hand it runs me crazy and just flat pisses me off when I see a new Elvis release like at 2 or 3 in the US. I admit the first thing that comes in my mind is go to the UK charts and our boy will be #1 never fails. I want to say though a reason I think it is like it is because of the good old colonel who had th integrity of a goat. Elvis needed a Europe tour god knows he wanted it, who knows the King rose and devoured any challenge (The 1977 CBS special was nothing but {do your show the same as always we gonna make money for the ole colonel let them film a little and watch you get a gold record you only got 500 won't that be exciting and if any money is left you can have that too} It's pathetic, maybe if a world wide tour was done and a huge publicity campaign launched This did not happen for one reason , The Colonel was scared he would be found an illegal alien. Elvis would have lost weight possibly have a return of some artistic material for ELVIS-WORLD TOUR I can't say he would still be alive today, I do think if this had happened He would have at least died happy and you wouldnt want to cry every time you see the 1977 CBS special.....now just a few words about the USA/Euro popularity. Because he never got to perform over there most of the UK fans are like us USA fans who never seen him but at least we have been to his house and have relative tell about him and 1960 he left never to return so the records was 2x as important they knew him only by books magazines Cd's.ect I have never been to the UK/England to see stonehendge, being from America I am going to buy more books and read more and be excited, The Land mark, it was just an example I tried to think of anything as well known as elvis and failed. No matter what it is pyramids, aurora borealis. People where it happens at love these things but they take it for granite what they have, Now if you showed up and said to the people of Egypt we are taking King tut's mummythe people would lynch mob you that their heritage is there and though known by the world he is Egypts. Elvis Presley is the same he is Amercican part of its history, heritage & paved the way for the British invasion. He was also so down home gun-ho american cuisine deep southcookin rarely even trying anything else. Elvis is the all time greatest American success story from a shack in Tupelo, Miss. to a mansion in Memphis TN and worldwide fame. God Bless our Troops ,America, My Family, and All of You

Since Elvis is to "make an appearance" on American Idol, I hope they use a really powerful performance. Any of these 3 performances would look great if shown to the American Idol audience. 1. Elvis performing the awesome version of Patch It Up from TTWII. 2. Elvis in the black leather performing a Blue Suede Shoes from the 1st stand up show of the 68 Comeback. 3. Also from the same 68 Comeback stand up show, the impromptu version of Baby What Do You Want Me To Do? That performance is one I wish they would really push & showcase more often. American Idol would be a place I'd like to see them show it. I think the reason isn't as popular in the USA now is there were so many missed opportunies in his lifetime that Elvis and his manager should have built on. After the 68 Comeback, there should have been a 69 TV Special maybe taped in Vegas and that could have been built on with other great follow ups. But with American Idol, I really hope they do this right and show a knockout Elvis performance that would let the general public see Elvis at his best.
