Elvis Photo Stolen

June 11, 2010 | Other

A thief stole an original photograph of Elvis Presley worth several thousand dollars from an antique store on Pioneer Street this week, the police said. Someone removed the Presley photograph from its frame when the owner of As You Like it Antiques wasn't looking, sometime Tuesday or early Wednesday, the owner told police.

She reported the theft from her shop in the 100 block of Pioneer Street at 11:25 Wednesday, Ashland Police Deputy Chief Rich Walsh said this morning."She just happened to find the frame of the picture lying there," he said. The photo depicted Presley, actor Mario Lanza and two unknown men.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to contact the Ashland Police Department at 541-482-5211.

Actor Mario Lanza? Mario was a world famous tenor who happened to appear in a handful of films.

Elvis admired Mario Lanza & cited him as one of his influences.

I really hate things stories like this, as much as I would want an Elvis item that I didn't have, I would never resort to theft.

Fake....well, the picture anyway...it's possible that it is stolen, but Elvis never met Mario Lanza...Lanza died in 1959 in Rome and left the USA in 1956. Records mention that Elvis and Mario talked on the phone when Elvis was in Germany. Both were contracted by RCA at that time. But there never was an actual meeting.

Elvis met Lanza? We would have read about that meeting in all the books over the years.
