August 05, 2011 | Other

Here it is, Belgium's most famous statue, Manneke Pis. People from all over the world come to Brussels only to see the statue of this little boy. He's been doing what he does best for over 200 years and still can't stop. This being Elvis-Month, the statue will get its special Elvis Outfit again. By the way: there are over 850 (!) different costumes for the statue.

People who know the history of this statue will realise that this is just a bit of fun, although I'm sure some will take offence.

I visited Belgium last year and I was surprised to see how small it is. And yes it is for fun, and a good tourist attraction. They also have other costumes for it as well, depending on the time of year. TCB

Great tribute, especially during Elvis week. This is a world famous statue and receives much publicity.

Harmless fun, yet again, another chance to make fun of the jumpsuit era for some.

jack409 : you seem to know absolutely nothing about this statue. I'm a Belgian and I can tell you this : it's located in our capital city Brussels nearby the beautiful marketplace since the 15TH CENTURY !!! Your country didn't even excist then. In 1619 a new statue replaced the old one. The statue was popular and liked by kings and princes. Even the French King Louis XV donated a costume to the city of Brussels for the statue . These are facts and history ! There are now over 700 costumes available, representing famous people, to cloth the little man on special occasions or events, always meant as a tribute and not, as you may think, to ridicule the chosen person. On some very special events he "pisses" wine or beer instead of pure water. The tourists love it and over the years it's been photographed and filmed by millions. You seem to be shocked by it . Well, don't ! There's no reason to, unless the well known American "puritan nature" speaks again. But I have my personal thoughts about this "puritan nature". Some things broadcast on TV speak for themselves. Always El.

It's a beautiful statue. But I don't believe that is the best way to show tribute to Elvis, especially during Elvis Week.
