Elvis Inspires French Star Academy

September 06, 2004 | Other
One of the eighteen "students" of the new French "Star Academy" is an Elvis fan! He is nineteen years old and named Morgan. The "Star Academy" TV program is the most popular program in France and the biggest TV rated program with a TV market share over 50% viewers. The first show broadcasted live last Friday broke previous record for the first Star Academy "prime time" with round 8 millions viewers.

The eighteen candidates chose the song they wanted to sing: Morgan picked up "Its now or never". Later in the bus driving them to their "academy" (a castle in the suburbs of Paris), students were jamming on "Love me tender". The "Star Academy" TV animator, Nikos, presenting the program live on the set in Paris, was amazed seeing such young kids singing Elvis and asked the Chairman of Universal Music France, Mr Pascal Nègre, "How come they sing Elvis ?" Nègre answered "It easily understandable as Elvis is one of the greats and few people know Elvis sung a lot of Latin songs".
