Elvis In UK Coca Cola Christmas Ad

November 14, 2013 | Other

Striking while the Elvis iron is steaming hot here in the UK, soft drink giant Coca-Cola are to use the voice of Elvis in the 2013 UK Christmas advertising campaign.

The commercial entitled 'Shooting Star' will air on the 23 November and focuses on a central theme of delivering good deeds during the Christmas season. The spot shows the well-known Coca-Cola Santa as well as people carrying out acts of kindness for the ones they love and plays out to a soundtrack by Elvis Presley.

Every man has a shooting star, a shooting star over his shoulder. And when a man sees his shooting star, he knows his time, his time to endorse Coca-Cola products from beyond the grave has come.

The problem with this ad is simple. Elvis preferred Pepsi Cola over Coca-Cola.

Lol how come no matter what information or topic that comes up on this site members have to see the negative or get sarcastic ???? ... The Coke adds at Christmas are seriously big deals and to have Elvis on the soundtrack i think is a really positive thing ... When can we see the add ? anyone know ?

Does anyone know if it is the same song (can't help falling in love), that plays over the ad , or are there several different (elvis)- songs ?

I was being sarcastic, but I really was just kidding; this doesn't bother me at all, really. And I know Elvis did seem to prefer Pepsi over Coke, but he was wrong about this.

I never understood why Elvis prefered pepsi, but taste is a very personal thing. Anyway to hear his voice in the add is just great. Exposure to his voice is just fantastic. I hardly ever listen to commercials, bu this one I will listen/look at (smile).

Oh Sorry, spoke too soon ! Also came across this ; On 23 November, Coke will launch a TV spot called ‘Shooting Star’, focusing on the theme of delivering good deeds during the Christmas season. The ad, set to a "heart-warming" soundtrack by Elvis Presley, will show Santa Claus attempting to create a shooting star in his workshop. The ad then shows people performing acts of kindness, such as a father buying his son his first car and someone allowing their friend to score a winning goal. Versions of the ad have previously run in other markets. To support the above-the-line activity, the brand is reviving its Coca-Cola Christmas Truck Tour, this time touring what it claims to be the "kindest" cities across the UK. It is also rolling out on-pack and social media promotions. Bríd Drohan-Stewart, Coca-Cola Great Britain marketing director, who took up the role last month, said: "Coca-Cola has become synonymous with spreading festive cheer and our Christmas campaigns, old and new, mark the unofficial countdown to Christmas. "Shooting Star's central creative remains true to the brand's core values of spreading happiness around the world."

I really Hope that this can keep the ball rolling for the new U.K. cd "The nations favorite Elvis songs", so it can keep in the top 10 for a long time still (and therefor also will be on the frontrow of the shops shelves). You can tell people that "can't help talking in love" can be found on that cd. And please buy one if you haven't already, it is actually a really nice set (the Deluxe version), with 5 cool pictures you can frame, and a nice box to hold the pictures and cd's in. You can also tell the people who are curious about how Elvis' version of "o' come all y' fatefull" sounds, that they can find that version on the Deluxe set. Does anyone know if there are more than one commercial and/or songs ?

Well the advertisement was shown but only the one we have already seen with the girl singing 'Can't Help Falling In Love'. All the media blurb leading up to the Coca-Cola TV advertisement 'Shooting Star' stated that it would feature a new 'Elvis Presley Soundtrack' as from 23rd November. I have e-mailed Coca-Cola (UK) to find out what is going on. However, they do say it will take up to 5 days to find out. Watch this space but don't hold your breath!
