Elvis in Photography Exhibition

January 18, 2001 | Other
Experience Music Project (EMP) in Seattle will unveil its latest special exhibit gallery with Artist to Icon: Early Photographs of Elvis, Dylan and The Beatles on January 19, 2001. This new photography exhibit will replace The Gehry Experience, which closed on January 1, 2001.

Artist to Icon provides a glimpse into the lives of Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Bob Dylan before they became rock 'n' roll legends. The exhibit includes 48 rarely seen black-and-white photographs by five photographers. These images provide a journey back in time to unique moments in history - between 1956 and 1965 - when these artists' talents and styles were coming together as voices of cultural change. The photographers Alfred Wertheimer (Elvis Presley), Astrid Kirchherr (the Beatles), Jürgen Vollmer (the Beatles), Max Scheler (the Beatles) and Daniel Kramer (Bob Dylan) - managed to capture images that tell the story of the innocence, ambition and unbounded adventure of the first decade of rock 'n' roll.
