Up for auction on eBay is the original black Dove Guitar, used by Elvis on stage in over 100 concerts. The current owner got the guitar from Elvis in 1975, and kept it ever since. It still has the original Kenpo Karate sticker on the body. The auction ends on September 2, 2008. From eBay: Black Custom made Gibson Dove Guitar made for Elvis Presley. His name "Elvis Presley" is inlaid in mother of pearl in the neck of the guitar. Was given to seller July of 1975 in North Carolina by Elvis Presley himself. There is a decal on the body of the guitar which represents Kempo Karate. This is the form of Karate that Elvis Presley participated in. Elvis Presley had his picture made with this guitar more than any other guitar that he ever owned. This is the guitar that was featured in the movie, "Aloha from Hawaii." This is an original Gibson Dove guitar custom made for Elvis Presley. The mother of pearl inlay work was done at Gruen Guitars in Nashville, Tennessee.

Amazing. For years at the Hard Rock Casino in Vegas they had what was shown to be that very same guitar on display. It makes one wonder.

If this is genuine, then apart from that first guitar Gladys bought him, this is the most important of all his instruments. Really iconic this one, how I wish I could afford to even touch the damn thing, let alone own it. What a beauty.

Actually, could I re-phrase that: What I meant to say was: this is the most important of all his MUSICAL instruments. Calm down ladies, ooer missus.

Elvis' most important musical instrument was his voice and his soul. Everything else is just decoration. Current bid on this is $10,000, just a little outside my ballpark. I am curious though why the seller would want to sell it now, after holding onto it so long. Must really need the money. mho, it belongs in Graceland but Elvis wouldn't care I don't think. Curious about the one in Vegas tho.

Some of Elvis' lesser known guitars have gone for over £100,000 so I would expect this baby to go for a lot more.
