On the 2nd To None message board a posting was made mentioning that advertisements for the "Love, Elvis" compilation were banned in some music ads and magazines because of the tongues sticking out.

Are we or are we not in the year 2005 or are we back in the 1950's. A lot of rap music has only one theme, sex, a lot of video clips show us only one thing, sex, and Elvis shows his tongue and should get banned, my boy, my boy can you believe it?
circleG wrote on February 05, 2005
all the more reason to use it as a cover! Elvis was the king of controversy, and still is! That 'threating' image ( of course we know he was anything but..) is what will endear him to younger audiences. I much prferred this as a cover to the cd.
pacer1965 wrote on February 05, 2005
When was the last time Elvis got banned ? Must be living in the 1950s again. The king has an x-rated tongue. Yes keep the cover
Elvos wrote on February 05, 2005
I guess this picture has always been mis-understood! Its not his tongue, they were sharing one cookie and El just takes a bite...so what??? hehehe

See BMG are taking their usual care over Elvis releases. Here in the UK they've removed the "offending" cover pic. Problem is nobody appears to have bothered reading the sleeve notes which still refer to Elvis going tongue to tongue on "the cover of this package". Ah well, it's Elvis so it'll sell anyway, why bother?

Hey, I am fairly new here and I don't post much but I just had to say something here. Man, what is the big deal? So Elvis shows us some tongue, My God my grandchildren see worse than that on MTV and VH1. Have any of you guys seen the half nude people ( or should I say 3/4 nude people) on there. It's just because it is Elvis. Like someone else said this will probably only endear him to the younger generation. LOL He went through so much with his critics when he was living and now they are doing it again. Wow! As Elvis said many times, "It never ceases to amaze me."

Elvis Banned By EPE, Right so the crap about top of the pops broke the agreement with EPE about playing footage of elvis is total bull!! Just watched the Chart Show on ITV and Cat Deely has just announced the the wonderfull EPE wont let them use any Elvis footage either, how rediculous!! This has taken the enjoyment out of Elvis getting to the top, because of this no one is taking it serious, im off to play Green day now.
pacer1965 wrote on February 05, 2005
Yes your right Linda its stupid banning Elvis for showing a bit of tongue.Theres alot worse on tv these days than Elvis showing his tongue off. And its EPE has banned Elvis on British tv Rob. So its all aload of rubbish about this dispute with the bbc then
Viva wrote on February 05, 2005
Rob_irish: I'm stunned. Right, it's another e-mail to epe then. Not that it will do any good. We need to petition that bunch of dick heads. It says a lot about our society when you can show everything except a nipple on childrens tv, but a tongue? well that's a criminal offence. What with this and the EPE shambles, the lunatics have finally taken over the asylum. I'm going to emigrate to Saturn. Any one got a gas mask?
RobIreland wrote on February 05, 2005
I Honestly cannot believe the closed minds involved in this situation. If it wasent for EPE , Elvis would be all over the Television at the minute, i really cant blame the chart shows for giving him minimum coverage, those bunch of close minded ediots at EPE. Some people might say its a buissiness, well it is one thats being run terribly, if it results in showing its "product" up in such a bad light . This was a chance to bring Elvis' image down to earth and become excepted by todays youth, but no ! he's still untouchable , up there in the clouds like some kinda freek thanks to EPE, IDIOTS!!

This shows Elvis magnitude, even in 2005 he can provoke!

What in the hells wrong with these people. Who in the world cares if Elvis shows his toungue. Are these people over sensitive, are they too old or are they JEALOUS because they've never kissed anyone. This just reminds me of England because the British government was thinking of banning teenagers kissing in the street. What's wrong with the world today, it seems like everything is going to be banned. There is nothing wrong with this picture. I've seen more explicit pictures and footage on T.V before the 9:pm watershed. This picture is already in calenders, posters and postcards so why is EPE crapping themselves over this. Do they think it would cause outrage like Janet Jackson showed her breast at the superbowl, hell it wasn't all of her breast, her nipple was covered up (was so dissapionted)
Aarons wrote on February 05, 2005
How will they show Elvis. They can't show him from the waist down, now they can't show him from the neck upwards. So they have to show him between the neck and waist.
Aarons wrote on February 05, 2005
I wonder what Elvis would've thought. He would probably think, 'The big wusses.'
Aarons wrote on February 05, 2005
Do you know what surprises me the most, his been banned from his own company.
PaulFromFrance wrote on February 05, 2005
I often wonder how these people are able to reproduce. Again, those puritanists spoiling our lives...
Aarons wrote on February 05, 2005
Why can't they ban crap Elvis imperonaters, with crap wigs, the ones who can't sing, and the ones who just do it for money. Those are the things what EPE should be doing. Hell I could do the job myself, start off with the States then England, then the rest. Then Elvis's image would start to clear. I agree with PaulFromFrance what's great about being pure, there his no pleasure about being pure I should know I'm 16, I'm pure and I hate it.

Guys, Did the Col ever die? I am only 21 but remember reading that his philosophy was something like give them less and they'll want more - when Elvis was in the Army the Col would not let RCA record more songs than was minimum. I guess he must still be running the show, i.e. no footage on tv, no airplay for the new singles, very little stock of the new singles, and now EPE ban the 'Love, Elvis' cover which was seen in Elvis '56 documentary. How ridiculous. Wake up EPE!
Mofoca22 wrote on February 05, 2005
why are they sabataging elvis' sucess? im 25 and there aint anything offesnive about that cover ive seen worse covers. heck some actually show the act of fornicating on the cd now thats discraceful. epe should ban themselves there making a mockery out of our man. greedy idiots they all are. that includes priscilla presley. shes using elvis name still and shes the woman who put him in his grave. i curse them. but may elvis' name live on 4ever hes a legend. even 2005 he gats banned while molestors liker wacko jacko and r kelly are allowed to stay in public.
Jim Semple wrote on February 05, 2005
As much as I hate EPE and think they are a bunch of greedy w**kers, where does it say that EPE banned this ? It might be the actual magazines themselves that made the decision ?!?.
johnlennon wrote on February 05, 2005
So he's touching some lasses tongue, big deal, everyone does it. You see a hell of a lot more sexual stuff on music shows, we're not in the 1800's hear or something stupid like that are we! There's nothing offending by this cover nor anything like it. We all have or have had sex in our lives, it's not an evil thing, and seeing Elvis's tongue alone is NOT touching tongues with a lass is not offending at all. Makes me laugh really. Some people!
pacer1965 wrote on February 05, 2005
No EPE have nothing to do with this being banned. Its the magazines who are to blame. I was mad about what Cat said on cd/uk this morning Jim
Viva wrote on February 05, 2005
Even though EPE had nothing to do with the ban, can we blame them anyway? After watching CD:UK on ITV2 this afternoon, they deserve all the mud we can throw at them. Lying, deceitful, arrogant, avaricious, anally retentive knob jockeys.
Aarons wrote on February 05, 2005
What a bunch of planks.
pacer1965 wrote on February 05, 2005
You can blame EPE viva if you wish. You only say what I am thinking most of the time anyway. Whats wrong with a french kiss anyway ! But I wont be giving EPE a kiss though
analj wrote on February 05, 2005
Look like all love this pcture, don't waste our time talking about EPE, did somebody read lisa merie's intervew with howard sterns?, this is asheme.
Viva wrote on February 06, 2005
I'll give EPE a kiss, just give me time to get a coldsore first. analj: read the interview- Shocking and disturbing, she must be a complete fruitcake.

If You would all take the time to read the previous posts you would understand that myself and pacer are angry at EPE banning usage of footage of Elvis on ITV as well as BBC1, nothing to do with that bloody cover, who gives a damn about that cover , the cd's a money making project anyway. I repeat EPE has banned elvis footage on all Britisg TV , forget the cover , its the video footage thats importanat, now have you all takin the time to read properly ??????
RobIreland wrote on February 06, 2005
Wish i had taken the time to spell properly.
dailyone wrote on February 06, 2005
calm down calm down didnt elvis get banned b 4. i dont like the cover either but after hearing eimem i that is how you spell it it makes you wonder. and when you think of it how about allc " shut your mouth and open up your heart. lets face it, what looks like a heart ? think about it! i know how elvis would have sung it in the studio when he wasnt puting it on tape use "legs or thighs" ahem.
Crawfish wrote on February 06, 2005
This is just crazy but more people will buy it because of it; you know how marketing works! I love this picture of Elvis; shows him playing and being himself rather than carefully structured photos and what girl wouldn't want to be THAT girl!!
ranger wrote on February 06, 2005
Point taken rob-irish, but I also want to make a point about this picture. It strikes me that various bodies delight in ridiculing or showing Elvis in a less than flattering light, but faced with the vibrant, young, confrontational Elvis they run a mile. In my opinion we actually live in a far more conservative and censorial society than even 50s America. In pop music, people like Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Robbie Williams etc. etc. are actually sex-less, and any personality that any of them may once have had (debatable) is quickly airbrushed away. That didn't used to happen so obviously, certainly not in the 60s. This picture is everything I love about Elvis. Instead of rounding off the singles campaign with the bland, corporate design of the ALLC sleeve (see also 'Elv1s' & '2nd To None') they could do worse than to have this picture as the cover.
pacer1965 wrote on February 06, 2005
I think its funny that this photo has been banned by some of the magazines. One of the biggest laughs I have had in ages.I think its a great pic of the king its so natural.Elvis is only having a bit of fun anway. His got such a cheeky grin on that photo you cant help but smile with him.I think Elvis would laugh himself if he new this had been banned
RobIreland wrote on February 06, 2005
Well I'll tell you ,if this is reported in the news or on the radio that the cover of this album has been banned then watch it soar to the number one spot, could be a big publicity stunt you know. Thats the kind of society we live in, every move is designed for profit, could be a fly move by Sony/ Bmg.

Sharing a cookie and not tongues? Elvos said (third message below) "... this picture has always been mis-understood! It's not his tongue, they were sharing one cookie and El just takes a bite..." --who can confirm this is true? If they were just sharing a cookie, that sure blows this whole controversy out of the water !! Who cares anyway, look at those Cherokee cheekbones and cheeky attitude...YUM !

I´ll just say that this is one of the most finest Elvis covers in years, it pictures the idea isn´t it? its better than another love songs compilation with the happy guy smiling on the cover; this was a clever and tastefull one. About compilation covers, this is my second favourite after Elvis 56, and that´s was a long time ago. About somebody banning the thing, well that´s cool, its free publicity. (Anyway what´s on that cover to bann, come on!! kissing is goddam natural lovely thing) Yours and traveling around the world: Licking Willie S. Burroughs.

No Elvis was not sharing a cookie hillbillycatlover.Have you not read the book about this ? Its quite funny the story behind this photo. I love this pic of the king why did they have to change the cover for ?
RobIreland wrote on February 08, 2005
Its a great cover just too grey, should have been tinted purple or something. Anyway was a great cover but sure thats why it was stopped, showed Elvis to be too human.
gail wrote on February 08, 2005
i can't understand some people,it's a great photo of Elvis, i've seen some really bad photos of some 'stars'and they don't get banned. What ever Elvis does someone will pick on it!
boris wrote on February 14, 2005
I'll be honest I never liked that picture. But who cares? This cover is not meant to match long time Elvis fan's demand... It looks like BMG/Sony are working on a new (and younger :-) audience related to different codes and references. And when talking about love this pic looks pretty expressive to them... So why not buy the english version for the old(er) fans and let the young(er) fans enjoy this one?
