Elvis At United Nations Anniversary Concert?

November 13, 2004 | Other
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the United Nations a special concert is in the works. The executive director is Stig Edgren. Apparently Stig and EPE are looking at the possibility to use Elvis’ performance of “If I Can Dream” on the big screen, backed by the TCB Band and The Sweet Inspiration”.

Omg...that would be October 24, 2005. I am almost in tears about this...what a wonderful thing if this happens ! I've always felt that this performance, this song, was his most passionate and most important. He is crying to us over the lack of peace and understanding in the world. He performed it right after Robert F Kennedy was killed, and just like when Martin Luther King Jr. was killed right there in his hometown of Memphis, he was heartbroken. He stayed up all night in the dressing room there to learn this song especially written for him, and he had only a couple days to learn it. What a thrill to watch him sing this song..you can feel his pain. He sang it for us, his fans all around the world, to bring the world together. He never sang it again after that; he had been too shook up. Even now we are still asking his question of Why, oh, why, won't my dream come true? Please, oh, please, let Elvis do this for us....

Well please spread the word, and tell everyone you know to spread the word, so we can raise the excitement level. This concept should also be done at the superbowl, as part of the half-time show.

Amazing! not only should everyone do everything possible for this to happen, BMG should re-release If I Can Dream as a worldwide single. They can promote it with the beautiful video from the '68 DVD, and to honour Elvis' memory as someone who always gave to charity, all proceeds from the single should go towards UNICEF. Does anyone have any idea how much money the elvis world could raise together for such a worthy cause? Remember USA for Africa's "We Are the World"? I guarantee that if we all got behind this we would show the entire planet what elvis and his fans are all about. How can we let BMG know about this?

Hey Craig (gribz)--After I did a websearch on the United Nations 60th anniversary global telethon being planned, you are correct, the 12 hour concert is scheduled for Sunday, June 26, in Flushing Meadows Park, New York. The traditional UN anniversary, however, is observed every October 24: "The United Nations officially came into existence on 24 October 1945, when the Charter had been ratified by China, France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and by a majority of other signatories. United Nations Day is celebrated on 24 October each year." Why the telethon is going to be held before the UN actually reaches its 60th anniversary is not mentioned, but I should have checked to see when the concert was going to be held instead of assuming it would be Oct. 24. Tytyvm for the clarification.

Hillbilly Cat: Two things that should amaze you. 1) is that if it is done right this thing could give Elvis an incredible boost, with the growing youth generaton that are already enjoying him, and 2) I live 10 blocks from Flushing Meadow Park, so I thank you for that notification. I "literally" can walk there in about 10 minutes that's how close I am. I just thought of the 3rd and 4th thing. 3, That 's the day of Elvis last concert, and 4. Sadly, also the day Vernon died. June 26 2004 can be a truly amazing memorial and celebration for the rest of the world, marking a new beginning' If I Can Dream'...Spread the word, and the coincidence..

Doctor. We are all on the same page, because that is what I was thinking. A single, including the new upgrade of Elvis doing 'If I Can Dream' in the leather outfit, with the money going to charities. Wow, this is the best Promo that both BMG and EPE could do as a promo and to continue with Elvis legendary charitable heart.. This is a win win for all..Elvis, Th efans BMG and EPE, if we look longterm. Spread the word...
