Dutch Enlist Elvis For EU Reforms

July 10, 2004 | Other
"A little less conversation, a little more action please" is what the Dutch want from their six months at the helm of the European Union.

To get the point across, EU social affairs and employment ministers gathered for an informal meeting in Maastricht were to hear Elvis Presley's "A Little Less Conversation" at the start of their meeting on Friday.

The song also asks for "a little more bite and a little less bark, a little less fight and a little more spark."

The Netherlands assumed the rotating EU presidency from Ireland on June 30. "We hope to see trends emerging," Dutch social affairs ministry spokeswoman Petra Klap said.

Right on! Maybe the E.U. could adopt ALLC as their theme song. Elvis keeps on rockin'! Just a thought, but maybe our friends in the United States could do the same with Elvis. John Kerry could use "If I Can Dream" to encourage democracy in America! Just a thought...
