DeSoto County Gives Initial Clearance To Proposed Elvis Reso

April 04, 2002 | Other
Developers hoping to build an Elvis Presley theme park say the stage is set for initial development of the $600 million resort after county supervisors gave zoning approval Wednesday. DeSoto County Board of Supervisors voted to give preliminary rezoning to about 800 acres for the development to J.D. Stacy, a developer who is proposing construction of the "Circle G Resort," located on land near Memphis, Tenn., that Elvis bought in 1967 and named "The Circle G Ranch." Stacy could start doing some preliminary dirt work, but that the county still needs to give approval to final plans. If they do what they said they're going to do and the final plan looks like the original plan, the final plan will be approved.

The Circle G Resort is a proposed park located in Mississippi about 15 minutes south of Graceland. It is to include a concert hall, museum, family entertainment center, convention center and cottages. The developers also plant to build a 53,000 square foot rendition of Elvis' dream house and two golf courses.
