June 16, 2004 | Video
Here is a snapshot of the design of the new "Aloha From Hawaii" and "1968 Comeback Special" DVD sets. What didn't show clearly on the previews of the Aloha cover is that it is covered with silver glitters.

These DVDs will probably be the last things I ever purchase. I am truly disgusted at the zero marketing and promotion there has been in the UK for these forthcoming releases. It really is appalling, I've spoken to loads of people that past couple of months and they have no idea about these DVDs and thats criminal. BMG UK, EPE, whoever - hand your heads in shame, the UK is probably Elvis's biggest fan base.

JeroenNL - If you read my message properly, you would see I am referring to BMG Uk not Holland or USA. And yes I have contacted BMG UK and had no response whatsover.

the packaging looks good on both releases. the aloha cover is not at all bad and at least stands out from being another white jumpsuit pic, which umpteen other album covers and releases have. ask a thousand people what cove they would have liked and there would have been numerous variations of answer. but white jumpsuit pic would be one of the most popular no doubt. i dont care what either cover has on it am just wanting to watch the dvd's inside. money has been spent on these releases and a lot of are as well............i am happy with that and am awaiting the release date with excitement.

Well, now we know what the "Outer box" of the Aloha looks like - nothing like the inner box that was unveiled a couple of weeks ago- Pareto, it is not just complaints that we make about the covers or lack of promotion - be sure that it is very directly reflected in any future product put out- if something sell really well you will have a Vol 2 or a follow up really quick. If not well, you just might have to wait for the 75th or 100th Anniversary. What's the odds that Warner's top bosses are not keen on spending any money on an "On tour" project simply because TTWII-SE "failed" ? You can bet that their marketing guys will swear they did all they could, but heck, what can you do Elvis just isnt popular as he once was. You can also safely bet your Ass that those guys will not be surfing sites like these to check fan reactions. I have several colleagues who like music and "dont mind" Elvis but do they know anything about these releases ? Or do you like some other artists/types of music that are not currently on the "Hot 100" for eg . Sam Cooke or Roy Orbison , you know any curent release of theirs ? Sure this set will sell a few thousand sets, and then it will be the residual sales from EPE and fan clubs that may help make a profit. Well at least they put glitter on it- jb

Let me tell you...i've just watched a view bits of these new dvd's (mostly 68')....And it is good enough to sell without any promotion...Any music lover will admit This is what music / entertainment is all about....This is the creme de la creme of music history (in my opinion) The cherry on the cake The sound and vision are in optimal quality...Now you can see details like never before...You can feel the excitement..the power....the charisma....What a display!! This is the best possible way to bring these shows....If you're not an Elvis Fan no explanation is possible..... just watch ... If you are an Elvis fan no explanation is necessary This is why we do it... And Jim I will be very proud of you if you really have the strength to leave those dvd's for what it is and not buy them! It's like refusing to buy sigarettes for a heavy smoker...And I can tell.OK people let's enjoy this gift once more Uhuhuh.

Ranskal, as these are TV registration from a time there was no wide screen, it's obvious that both sets will be full screen. For Dutch fans: it's already available in some shops (Van Leest), bought mine today. Also, at bol.com you can buy both sets together for €52,-. Best price I've seen so far.

So here we have 2 GREAT dvd´s. Great material, great quality and both loaded with never before seen footage. What else does any REAL Elvis fan wants?. Now I read reactions about promotion and that people won´t buy the dvd´s because of (in their eyes) bad promotion???. It is a crazy, crazy world. Some ´fans´ always find something to complain about and it is making me sick. Just sit on their lazy asses and do nothing but tear everything down. Let me remind you that BMG USA will promote the dvd´s with heavy marketing and previews in cinema´s. BMG Holland has just done a releaseparty and will promote with a heavy tv campagne. So there will be promotion. And if YOU are not satisfied with the promotion in your country why don´t you stand up and call your BMG office and tell them?. It is easy to stay in your chair and do nothing. You can also promote Elvis yourself. Please remember that the Recordbusiness is on it´s ass these days. BMG has put a lot, a whole lotta money in these dvd´s. Be happy that someone does because no one else can or would do that. But one thing needs to be clear: the dvd´s are GREAT stuff, the best ever, Any true Elvis fan will want them and enjoy the hell out of them. Elvis deserves our attention and efforts to keep him alive and in the public eye. Always critisizing everything that is released doesn´t help the fans and Elvis. So stop being a fan if nothing can please you and leave us alone so we can enjoy.

What ever happened to this "special site" EPE were goign to put no the official site to promote the two DVD's with clips and info? And the audio commentary on the '68 special from Scotty Moore and DJ Fontana???? Oh well. Got the Aloha one pre-ordered for £14.99.

Well Jim says the right thing. It's really a shame that these great DVDs weren't promoted in anyway. And I can recall EPE stated to do a big promotion around the world. The sad thing is, that if the DVD sets will sell normally, EPE will state it as flops. The same with TTWII SE. It wasn't really a flop, but they expected more sales. And that will be the same thing here. So there will no Elvis On Tour then I guess... I was in hope that this will sell great in order of the promotion and EPE finally wakes up. Well anyway, I already pre-ordered the DVDs here and I can't wait until June 21. Have a nice day :)

I can't wait for these, 5 more days! Does anyone know if there will be a widescreen version and a full screen, or will it be one or the other? I am hoping for a widescreen version.
ranskal wrote on June 18, 2004
Rico007, that makes sense. I was thinking about TTWII being widescreen but that was an actual theater movie. Oh well.

I can't wait to get my hands on these two sets. I think it is great that they are releasing all this unseen footage. I hope that in the near future they release Elvis on Tour and even Elvis in Concert like this. I'm a young Elvis fan and wasn't born till two years after he died but was raised on his music and have been a fan ever since I could walk. Stuff like this is the only way us younger fans can see more of the true King of rock 'n' roll. I would have given anything to have been around to see him in concert. I went to Graceland last year for the first time and it blew me away to finally get to go. I'm going back this year during Elvis week in August. I also have to say this is the best Elvis news site ever. There's not a day goes by that I don't come here. Keep up the good work.
