Comeback DVD Errors

July 13, 2004 | Video
On the FECC message board several (UK and Australian) fans complained that the second disk from the Comeback DVD set has problems. Some DVD players did not recognize the disk, on others the image freezes or the disk "jumps" at several places (e.g. "Trouble/Guitar Man" all takes section).

The second error is is a lesser problem. The second disk of the Australian edition of the "68 Comeback Special" DVD set is labeled as "disk 1" in stead of "disk 2". Perhaps a future collectors item.

I'm in the UK and Disc 2 of my copy has the same jumping problem ob Trouble/Guitar Man, is anything going to be done by BMG to replace these?

Em, it's on my copy... just before big boss man, right?

Disk 2 definitely has problems. When I play it on my playstation dvd player - the 2004 video of "If I Can Dream" will not play and it is the only track on that disk which does not play. This track does play properly when I play the disk in a regular dvd player, with a slight skip just at the beginning when the song fades in.

The worst "error" on the disc is the missing "It hurts me" as part of the "Guitar man Story". It really hurts me to see how badly this one is edited! *ouch*!

Give me a break!! What wonderful compilations both the Comeback and the Aloha DVDs are! If you read the liner notes, it explains that "It Hurts Me" was inadvertently left out, for which they apologize, but they also rightfully say that those fans who previewed the footage in Memphis in January didn't pick up on the omission either. Besides, this song is included with all its rehearsals, so it's not like it's not included at all in the DVD. EPE and Todd Morgan have performed a miracle for us in remastering all this footage as if "the fans were looking over our shoulder." We should be thanking them (as I have already done with Todd) for making these DVDs for us!

Viva, I agree. These are excellent DVD's. We are priviledge to have them and ever so greatful. However, all these mistakes are inexcusable. The basic principle "if you are sure everything is in order, check it one more time" is always essential, especially in two such crucial releases. The right thing to do is to correct the necessary technical and editing mistakes and make the disks available as replacements, just as was done with the "So High" FTD discs.

Some are you are wondering about the USA edition (I live in Calif.). I have watched the 68 discs for the last 4 weeks (some of it 3 or 4 times)and have not detected any skipping. But, like everyone else, It Hurts Me is missing. The Aloha set does not have any skipping problems either. The picture and sound on both sets is outstanding. Aside from, It Hurts Me, I can only give praise about these 2 sets.

If these DVD's were really meant to give us maximum Elvis then why have an overhead shot of the stage in the comeback DVD when Elvis is fooling around with someone adjusting his jacket. We know there is a camera on Elvis having seen it on the web previously. Also in the Alternate Aloha concert there was a great shot of Elvis giving a wonderful smile as he enters on stage. In the new edit all we get is the camera shaking around and Elvis's torso and legs. Fans looking over their shoulders? Give me a break.

I know that It Hurts Me is missing on the dvd set. well its just a mistake. Think about it - This set is still brilliant. It contains several takes of this song. - well that makes it up for missing song. - Bmg . / E.P.e. has done a great job releasing this and accompany Aloha dvd. This is one of the best Dvd releases this year. Keep up the good work of all thats involved releasing this dvd set. Keep us fans really happy.

I know that It Hurts Me Is missing on Guitar Man Story on the new dvd relaese. Well is it is a mistake. This Dvd release is still a great release. There are other footage thats on this release to make this slight mistake up. just think - it ever so great seeing the Sit Down shows and Stand up shows in their entirety. it would have been nice to see the missing song on tv special. as well. well never mind -

The 68 dvd set is absolutely fantastic, however I can't help feeling a bit empty when I watch the actual tv show. The omission of "It hurts me" is inexcusable- that whole segment now seems redundant and looks as if it was put in as an after thought. Whilst epe/bmg are to be commended on the overall quality of the set, someone in there clearly doesn't know their Elvis. The bottom line is that there should be NO mistakes on the set, let alone the numerous imperfections on this one. The sad fact is that this set is not complete or "comprehensive". Also on my disc 2 the "If I can dream" video skips like a kangaroo; not what I expect from two "allegedly" devoted to Elvis and professional organisations. Also, can anyone explain why the Aloha show has a couple of shots from the rehearsal show included in it? did the same person who edited the 68 show edit the band introductions on Aloha as well? Are we going to get replacement discs in the future? Overall what should have been a 11/10 rating (yes, I do mean 11) can only be a nine out of ten, simply on the grounds of lack of attention to detail. But then what did you expect? Some things never change. No doubt we will be given the opportunity to buy them all again with the mistakes removed. It's so much easier if you're a Beatles fan.

to Rita, The problem you describe is due to the difference in the colour systems between NTSC and PAL. If you put an NTSC disk in a region 1 player then by default the output will be in NTSC, if you put an NTSC disc in a PAL region 2 player then the DVD player will convert it to PAL colour system. In the UK most modern televisions can cope with both PAL and NTSC signalls, however in the USA most TV's can't accept the PAL signal. It sounds as if you TV can't handle the NTSC colour signal from your region 1 player and is therefor playing the disk in black and white. See if you can adjust your region 1 player to output a quasi PAL signal, some do, some don't. This does not indicate any error with the disc, after all the American disks are recorded in NTSC and the UK disks (and Europe) are recodrded in PAL. I have both sets, both versions, and have had no problems with the American set, but I am yet to open the UK disks. hope this helps

Actually there are parts of the "It Hurts Me" segment not anywhere on the DVD! Completely left off.
sam wrote on July 14, 2004
Memphis Flash, where is the part from the original video release where there is a stack of bodies on the floor from when Elvis has beaten them all up???

I must have the Australian edition of the 68 special then as the label is wrong on disk 2. But i have not had any errors at all on the dvd. I have had problems on the playstation with loads of films so I dont think thats anything to do with the 68 special. I am very pleased with the 68 special its fantastic Elvis looks so life like he looks like his going to jump out of the tv.
pacer1965 wrote on July 14, 2004
Sam they forgot to put the bit in with Elvis standing over the bodies when his singing It hurts me. EPE did say they made a mistake and did not realise this until it was to late.
pacer1965 wrote on July 14, 2004
Sit and enjoy judy. The picture quality is great on the 68 special and I cannot believe what a great job they have done on it. its fantastic. Elvis looks so life like you can almost touch him. So thanks to everyone who made this dvd you have done a great job !
pacer1965 wrote on July 15, 2004
hound dog Elvis' mic cut out out when he was singing in the first stand up show. Thats why you cannot hear anything. It does tell you in the 68 special booklet.

These 2 DVD's are absolutley brilliant, don't know why so many are complaining, i found the 68 Comeback absolutely awesome Elvis looks so gorgeous and his singing is out of this world,The Aloha special reduced me to tears, i couldn't believe just how wonderful he looked and sounded... lets not complain... just enjoy these wonderful specials... Thanx to Todd and all at EPE that have worked so hard to make these DVD's possible!

We have the Aloha From Hawaii and the 68' Special from America on NTSC. We have a Region 1 player and when we play these DVD's they just play in black and white, not colour. When you put it through a Region 2 they come play in glorious colour. Anybody else got a Region 1 player, if so have you had the same problem.
