Classic Elvis

September 20, 2008 | Music

According to the tracklist of the Sony/ BMG budget release Classic Elvis, they found an unknown Elvis song called Mystery Woman. Or can it be another mistake by this glorious record company? Anyway, the disc will be released on October 11 in Australia and Europe for sure, and presumably the other continents too.

Suspiciously very close to "CLASSIC ELVIS" Camden Originals 74321 476822. Nevertheless: It's actually a very good compilation, and brougth forward the single version of A Big Hunk O' Love, longe gone by then. My print is EU 1997 and a nice cover too! For whoevere: It's actually a very nice 16 tracker!

It's called a continuity/printing error. News must be really slow when stuff like this passes for "news." Relax, chill out. Have a beer.

How is this news worthy? 50 year old songs released for the 1000th time. Some fans need to get a life.

Some of you seem to forget not everything is geared for the established fans. The market has to capture the young, newer people & turn them into young, newer fans. I just hope they do a decent job. No, I wouldn't buy this either since I have every recording Elvis made in all the styles he made them. It's not about us!

But surely the "new younger fans" have these tracks already? It seems like Sony BMG release a new Greatest Hits / Best Of / Classic every couple of weeks. There's far too much product out there and it only confuses "new younger fans". Look at The Beatles' catalogue. It's far more streamline and much the better for it. You won't find their stuff being sold in tin cans or repackaged as 'Essential' collections every five minutes. With Sony BMG it's sheer greed. Just like EPE. It's the same old same old over and over and over and over again. They've got no idea of creativity or how to do anything original.

First of all I'm sorry for my bad English. For "Ruthie": these releases mean only one thing: money without effort...
Ruthie wrote on September 22, 2008
Well, guys, you all have a point. However, why don't you send some creative suggestions to Sony & EPE. You never know what might happen. It makes much more sense than being so critical all the time.

Ruthie - Sony, EPE & RCA/BMG already had the right vision but abandoned it. They were deleting non-essentail releases and releasing great single compliation CDs in the 90's as well as keeping the best albums (Elvis IS Back, etc) in print with additional tracks. Along with the 50's, 60's 70's Gospel & Christmas boxes, the catalog was in great shape. I still dont know what happened, but the whole catalog is a mess. These releases wont win over new fans, quite the opposite as Harvey pointed out. Great example as he says is The Beatles catalog. It never changes and they are always gaining new young fans with the albums that are in print. In a way FTD is partly to blame for releasing his mainstream albums in the classic series. I believe the new strategy is soley motivayed by making a quick buck as opposed to anything else.

Steve V - never ceases to amaze me why you waste your time replying to the likes of Ruthie - the same who reckons the Beatles were 'overrated' and if memory serves me right had no idea who Kurt Cobain was. You're right about this kind of release. For the life of me it serves no purpose and just adds to the multitude of other similar releases that are vying for the general publics attention. You can pick up Hitstory for just a few dollars now on the internet - why waste your time with this if you're the casual buyer. RCA never had a clue how to market Elvis when he was alive and despite promising developments in the 90's they've gone the same way now.

anyway, this marketing strategy of miss printing on purpose actually works. I pre-ordered mine..
