CBS Mini-series Actor Arrested

January 07, 2005 | People
According to a posting on the 2nd To None message board Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, who landed the role of Elvis in the forthcoming CBS mini-series, has been arrested for allegedly beating up his teenage girlfriend. He is currently in custody at Scotland Yard, London. More information when we have it.

In an interview with The Times Online, Irish actor Jonathan Rhys-Meyers takes time out to briefly discuss his title role in the upcoming CBS miniseries, Elvis. "I can't ask Elvis how he did Elvis, I can only perceive how Elvis became Elvis. I'm trying to do my interpretation of how Elvis is. The more raw I can make it the better it'll be," Rhys-Meyers explained. "I'm playing Elvis – from Cork. Can you imagine? They're paying me a fortune. (Expletive), imagine if I turned them down," he mused. Elvis begins filming this week in New Orleans. It will air in May.

The big question is" Do we really want this actor portraying Elvis after being arrested for violence against women and for suspicon for possessing cannabis. For a professional actor to behave like this is disgusting and this actor should NOT portray Elvis now. I mean, he couldnt have picked a worse time coming up to Elvis's 70th birthday celebrations. I say cast someone else for the part. This immature and unprofessional actor couldnt even be bothered to turn up for the audition when hundreds did.

I totally agree with Sean Ryan's comments. In addition, I don't even think this actor looks ANYTHING at all like Elvis! Let's get someone else for the role, EPE!!

In the N.Y Post this guy said that he never would have shown up on audition day because he would be with non-professional actors and people wearing Elvis costumes. He said " I would never turn up to an audition with 100's of Elvis impersonators who can't sing, dance or act.

To be honest, this guy sucks big time. I would go for Michael St. Gerard again. He´s natural, got the charm and is indeed a professional actor. Most importantly, he has that natural resemblence to Elvis in his 30´s. I guess Michael is around 35 today, I say go for him. This Jonathan-guy, well he´s worse than Don Johnson, that speaks volume!

I say, if true, that the guy should be dropped. Let's see how Tyler Hilton does as Elvis in the Johnny Cash movie and if he does pretty good, then I say he should be Elvis in the mini-series.

By the way, as of right now, I can find nowhere on the 2nd To None message board where this incident is listed. Was this removed from the board or was the news from another site, such as FECC?

I have searched the web and I can't find anything which confirms this story. The British tabloids are know of telling the truth so it must be true. They always told the truth about Elvis in his life and since his death. I don't think it's possible to make everybody happy so we'll have to go along with CBS's choice.

How do we know how true this is ? I dont read the british newspapers anymore all they do is insult people and tell half truths.

I agree with the last comment before mine here.He puts the guys down that actually spend their money to fly out to the auditions?Wow.Guess what?Im an actor singer/songwriter/musician and i auditioned. This guy is an immature, bisexual, woman beating ,druggie that probably isnt even an Elvis fan and just might make a mockery of E.P by attempting to portray him when he probably has no understanding of E.P as a human being first and then as a musical icon. Tyler Hilton www.tylerhilton.com On the other hand is a big Elvis fan and has been since he was a child and hes very vocal about it and respectful. He had the chance to portray Elvis in the upcoming movie"Walk the line" the Johnny Cash biopic starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Whitherspoon. From what ive heard he did a great job and his original music isnt bad either.I think Tyler is a better candidate for the role.Or even me if it comes down to it.I think Jonathan should be dropped.Hes already upto a bad start and is starting to cost the producers money already during pre-production.I think thats sad. This is doomed from the start if something isnt done quickly.I know we are all entitled to make mistakes but too many mistakes have already been made by casting the wrong people to play Elvis in the past(except maybe Kurt Russell) and we cant risk it no more.By the way Michael St.Gerard is now a minister in New Jersey so i dont think hes available anymore unfortunately.
