Catch That Rockabilly Fever

June 12, 2009 | Book

McFarland will publish a book titled Catch That Rockabilly Fever by Sheree Homer in the fall or winter of 2009.  The ISBN is 978-0-7864-3841-9 and the softcover book will contain ca. 50 photos, notes, bibliography, index.

From the publisher:
"Rockabilly, a musical designation coined by Billboard magazine in the mid–1950s, is a rambunctious rhythmic style combining the liveliest elements of country, gospel, and rhythm and blues. Popularized by such celebrated performers as Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly and Ricky Nelson, rockabilly has been a major influence on the music of Bob Dylan, the Beatles and Bruce Springsteen.

This affectionate history captures the essence of life on the road and in the recording studio through interviews with many of rockabilly’s foremost artists. Among those sharing their experiences are Jerry Allison and Sonny Curtis of the Crickets, Sonny Burgess, Wanda Jackson, Glen Glenn, the Collins Kids, Charlie Gracie and Deke Dickerson. Complementing the recollections of these gifted musicians are several rare publicity photos. "

I will check this out. Gene Vincent better be in it. A possible future purchase.

Wish it was a DVD instead of a book. Rockabilly footage is sorely missing on DVD.

Steve, am I right stating that rockabilly footage is missing in general , I mean that there's not much footage available ? Always El.

Benny - what I should have said is a good documentary on Rockabilly is needed. Yes there is footage around but a good study on this music on one DVD would be nice. But why should I think that would happen. We haven't even gotten a good documentary on Elvis yet.
