Black Diamond

April 19, 2010 | Music

In late May the Northern Star label will re-release Elvis' last Las Vegas concert. We're trying to make the sound quality a little bit better than it was on the previous releases of this historic concert. No more bad noise reduction, vinyl source and things like these. We have the first generation copy of the master tape and every single second will be carefully remastered. The 2 CD-set will come with a 16-page booklet, containing photographs and memorabilia from the last Vegas engagement. More infos and sound samples will be available soon.

Definitely not as good as some shows before (e.g. Opening Night or December 11) but decent anyway..and for historical reasons (the last Vegas show)..I`d say recommendable in any case..at least for those who don`t have the original release Balck Diamond.

A rip off. Why 2 cd's? They could have put everything on one & still had room to spare. Better sound my a--. And the cover Elvis looks like he bit into an olive with the pit still in it & is in agony. Which is what I am in looking at this pos.

I thought the original (Black Diamond) had excellent audio quality considering its an audience recording. I think this could be better since remastering has changed since the original was released. I like the cover too

This is an enjoyable show. The original "Black Diamond" was also a 2-CD set. I think it's great to have for the historical importance- Elvis' last show EVER in Las Vegas.

Terrible cover. My 11 months old daughter can create better one. And why to hell they used photo of Ger Rijff in Vegas Dec. 76 for front?

Because Ger deserves it for all he did for the Elvis-world? ;-)

Personally i like the cover. Better than the cover of 'Karate Fever'. I think they used the Vegas '76 Ger Rijff photo because it's from the actual Vegas season. Simple as that. The Elvis photo is from the actual show,by the way. So no complaints here. I still don't have this show so i'm gonna get it.

Good show and good looking front cover. If the sound is better than on the old CD then i will re-buy it. But before this i want to read reviews.

To Japio & Theoldscudder if you don't like it don't buy it. Some of us here in the USA would love to be able to order this cd and others but unfortunately they are not as available to us as they are to you. This was his last Las Vegas Concert so to me it is a part of music history so stop critizing everything that comes out nothing pleases you it seems you have to critize everything that comes out on Elvis. I agree not everything is great and there are some bad ones but you guys seem to critize all the time no matter what it is. Don't you realize that one day and yes it's going to come there will be nothing left to produce on Elvis the well will run dry so i guess you will be critizing that to there is just no pleasing some people.

Ger Rijff is one of the most terrific guys I ever met in my life...if one deserves it..then it is HIM..Ger can you hear me..??...lol..

So this release is a tribute to Ger Rijff?:) Anyway,it looks good in my opinion. Though the content is more important,of course. Love,Erika

Lamp light. I don't say the show is bad,It's a good show. I have the orginal release And I'm talking about the sound from the original cd. That was not good at all. But this was taken from two differnt sources. And also the cover then was not good. But it's even better than a cd-r cd that they sells on various sites. So if you like this one, go ahead have fun with it. And i don't critize everything. But would you pay 15 to 20 bucks for a cd-r with selfmade spliced takes?. Or a cd with really bad sound ? A cd'r ( also in color ) costs not more then 25 cents.A jewelcaes 14 cents and a good print some 30 cents. Look what you save. That's why some here complain. Too much money. And i don't critize everything, just the garbage that's been coming out lately. Look further on this site and see that i give also positive reply's.

Lamp Light's Out, My opinion is the cover is bad. I have a right to say that even though you may not like my opinion. The Karate Fever has a nice cover ( so there's a positive). How about that. These shows all are basically the same so for me to have more than a handful is over dozing. However go knock yourself buy as many copies as you want. Then next year when it comes out with a different cover & the err promise of improved sound buy it again & again, & again.

Wow. That's one busy cover! These guys clearly don't subscribe to the "less is more" school of thought. But let's not judge a book/CD by the cover. Just cos the packaging has no class doesn't mean the content with its new "improved sound" won't be enjoyable. Actually, I know a lot of these guys put out CDs which many of us have before and the improvement is slight at best but there are so many folks out there who just never got these concerts or outtakes or whatever the first time round so I say keep it coming. Not every fan is a seasoned completist and that's worth baring in mind when these re releases come out before we start to complain. Hell, I missed the Profile boxes first time round so I was well chuffed when those concerts came round the second time and I never stopped to care about whether the audio was improved. I just wanted to hear what I had bee missing all these years.

Turns out what I was missing all these years was the ability to type the letter "n" on the end of the word "been" - see the end of previous post....
