BBC Explores Elvis' Youth

In preparation for a six-part radio series on Elvis Presley, the BBC will be in Tupelo this month to interview locals who knew the rock 'n' roll icon during his childhood. BBC employees will be in Tupelo on Oct. 29-30, searching for Presley's former schoolmates, neighbors, friends, shop owners, restaurateurs and others who knew or met him. They also plan to interview those who remember Presley's parents, Gladys and Vernon. The BBC plans to broadcast the series around the world over the BBC Web site in January.

I don't think they will have a problem finding people who CLAIM they knew Elvis even if the didn't. When I was in Memphis in 1987 with a local radio station it was fairly obvious that taxi drivers, cafe owners etc claimed they knew Elvis well in the early days but it always felt as thow they were spinning a yarn and had convinced themselves it was true.

Always good to have thing like this being made. The only thing that worries me is will they be able to find anybody. The years are rolling on and how many people who knew Elvis will actually still be with us. Still I wish them luck.
