Always On My Mind

Robbie William's smash-hit Angels has been voted the song with the greatest-ever love lyrics.

The single revived Robbie's flagging solo career and won over the British public with the romantic words: '... she offers me protection, a lot of love and affection, whether I'm right or wrong'.

Nothing Compares 2 U, written by Prince and performed by Sinead O'Connor, was runner-up in the poll of 4000 music fans by Woolworths. Ex-Beatle George Harrison, who died of lung cancer in 2001, came third with his 1969 classic Something, ahead of fellow bandmate John Lennon's single Woman. Elvis Presley's 1972 golden oldie Always On My Mind came fifth.

I have heard of ROBBIE WILLIAMS but none of his music including his song "angels",which i would like to hear seeing as how it was voted number one.to think it is better than ELVIS'"always on my mind" is the unthinkable to me,but this is coming from a loyal ELVIS fan,and no offence aimed at him or his fans but i know i would never find this song in my part of CANADA,but i would like to hear it,for the above reason.

No offense to the Brits, but who is Robbie Williams??? LOL As for the rest, I agree... although I thought "Love Me Tender" was voted the best love song of all time... don't remember which poll that was -- maybe someone out there does...? As for "Always on My Mind," someone wrote into another webpage "Why Elvis didn't win a Grammy for this song and Willie Nelson did, is still a miracle." I remember some DJ running a contest when Willie Nelson's version was number one in 1997 to see how many listeners prefered Willie's over Elvis'. Many people did not know Elvis had recorded that song, (released as a single in 1972) and after this DJ played it, Elvis won the contest. "my boy, my boy...."

This is actually one of the very few, if not the first, of these kind of "funny lists" that I agree with. There's so many beautiful lyrics been written over the years, but the above mentioned are all legends in their own right, in this category. I am happy they remembered Elvis' Always On My Mind. It truly is a very beautiful, and sad song most of us can relate to.
