Aloha DVD Error Update

June 22, 2004 | Video
BMG Holland is busy tracking down the problem with the Aloha From Hawaii dvd. Here is the info we received:

"As you might have read, EPE has also made clear that two editing errors are made: It Hurts Me has been left out on the Original Broadcast Version of the Comeback Special (though the plenty alternate takes on the dvd-set do make up for it) and: there is a mix up with some images during the bandintroductions on the Aloha Special. To be clear: these are editing errors, not technical errors on the dvd.

BMG Holland will try to find a way to make the wrong right. However, this might take some time."

There is a glitch in the DVD in countries which use the PAL format. The segment is 17 minutes of footage where the crowd is waiting for Elvis to arrive by helicopter. At exactly 4:59 there is an "end code" which causes the picture to jump to the next Chapter (Rehearsal Concert). This is the glitch on the DVD.

From the Elvis 2nd To None site:

All of the footage is actually there. You can see it by hitting the "skip" button on your remote at 4:58 and that will make the program jump over the "end code" and allow the arrival footage to continue. At the end of the 17 minutes you must return to the main menu to proceed with Chapter 2.

Please note at 4:59 where the glitch occurs, Elvis has not arrived yet. The shot is actually of a lamp post. If you follow this procedure you will not miss any Elvis footage!

ElvisNews.com and ElvisNederland.com will keep the (Dutch) fans informed when new information becomes available.

Update: we cleared confusion on who's statement this is.

Lyle Ray , mentions a very good point: I never remebered the last part of the "It hurts me" -where is it ? More to the point: is BMG doing anything about the TECHNICAL error, in that the during the Arrival scene in the Aloha just after the choir in Green shirts finish singing ....it skips abruptly into the 2001 theme. It does so on both my DVD players. BTW does the "satelite blips" sound before the 2001 starts up - incidently on ONE of my players Disc two refuses to play the Concert directly... it just goes to the "insert songs" menu and stops after that..... It's no big deal and I can live with that. jb

Yes there are plenty of outtakes of It Hurts Me on the 3rd DVD in the set, takes 111 through 126, but I cannot find the final part of the song. I can't seem to find any outtakes of the karate dancers either. After the Karate dancers are done Elvis sings the last portion of the song and you see his foot on a pile of bodies and you watch the girl walk away. I cannot find these takes on the 3rd disc. If anyone knows where they are feel free to tell me that I am wrong about the ommission of these outtakes.

Was I really the first who send this the world over thru the internet? Anyway, great that BMG admits the problems and is thinking of a way to correct it...

I went to the screening of the 68 special absolutely fantastic place was packed, and the crowd was so into it!! Elvis is the only one where he can get the crowd clapping during a movie after each song. Also got both dvds both are just the way every elvis fan ever wanted aloha and the 68, absolutely complete, the only thing on aloha which i wish it had , i wish it had the press conference and the the tv interview, that would have been awesome, again both are abasolutely incredible, i just wish that's the way it is special edition was handled like this , they should have released it absolutely complete. in a box set. thanks again, i hope you guys continue to give elvis the push he deserves, and i hope to one day see Elvis on tour in complete with all the concerts and backstage on dvd one day!! thanks again

ouch! looks like BMG made a mess up of those two DVD's for sure though i must admit it is very courageous and appreciated that they have responded and admitted to the faults. I really hope the two mistakes can be corrected fast because if they are relying on word of mouth to increase sales then the only word that comes to mind is 'incomplete'. If its too late to fix then I won't be throwing away my DVD of the (complete) COMEBACK show just yet. Thanks all the same BMG, I'm really looking forward to the releases!

I agree, that statement of ("though the plenty of alternate takes that make up for it") for "it hurts me" is a poor statement to make considering missing that part does ruin that whole production number... Also originally someone posted that "it hurts me" was suppose to be in the new polk salad annie release, and wasn't!!! if you look back on the FTD news, you'll see that was suppose to be in that release... Whatever the reason, I hope there be a new disc sent to each, and every one that buys the 68 deluxe edition... I'm getting my copy today!!!

nostab,i agree with you on that one...i also posted the same thing on the aloha dvd as a reaction yesterday...the sound of the 1st one the 12th is great, but the sound on the second one the 14th is really missing some bass...i hope some other people complain about it,and they better do something about it...

I have just received my copy of the Aloha Deluxe Set, is it me or is the 5.1 Dolby Soundtrack for the main concert of 14.01.73 completely missing it's bass track. The 5.1 track for the rehearsal is spot on, but if you compare the two the 5.1 from the main show is terrible. Is it just me ?
