A Star For Elvis Ceremony

September 16, 2008 | Other

The Viva Las Vegas fan club raised enough money to get Elvis a star on the "Las Vegas Walk of Stars". The installation of te star - a star is set in concrete into the sidewalk - will take place on Monday September 29, 2008. The location is in front of the Riviera Hotel, near the star of Liberace and in view of the Las Vegas Hilton. Unlike the Hollywood Walk of Fame, there is no big ceremony on the sidewalk when the star is installed.

It is wonderful that the local fan club raised funds for an Elvis star in Vegas. But Vegas should not forget that it was Elvis Presley, more than any other artist set Las Vegas alight. His success attracted major acts back into the casino capital, and then encouraged the developement of super casinos not only in Las Vegas, but across the State, and these days elswhere in the US and around the world. Elvis' success with vacationers was unparalled, with international visitors exceptional, and for the local economy amazing. The city, the state should honor Elvis Presley, and yes, the other entertainers who made Las Vegas a world class destination. Congratulations to the fans who clubbed together to buy the star. Nevada should be humbled by their support. Hundreds of members of the British Fan Club will be back in Las Vegas in February next year at the start of the celebrations to make the 40th anniversary of Elvis' Return to Splendour. Come and join us!

Yes, there should be a ceremony & I was under the impression that the Las Vega fan club was going to have one. I will be there in October & can't wait to see it!

Ruthie, there is going to be a ceremony. In Vegas they do it different than Hollywood. It's an invite only affair in a showroom. It will be covered by the media. They chose to put it in front of the Riviera because it's the closest spot to the Hilton on the strip, and near the former site of the New Frontier. There are other very high profile stars in the area also. It's going to be a great event. I'm looking very forward to it.

Come again? Fans had to raise money to get a star for Elvis? just curious who IS on that walk of stars already if not Elvis? I think it's the organizers of that walk of stars who oughtta thought about it in the first place

Thank you Vegas Sun for the information. That's great news! Sure wish I could be there. Sadly, I must wait until October!

Home > News > Misc. Update Cirque Du Soleil: The Elvis themed Cirque Du Soleil show is scheduled to start in late 2009, when the 'City Centre' will open its doors. The building has been given its official name this week and will be known as 'ARIA Resort and Casino'. The architects are talking about a never before seen experience that has no previous examples on the Strip. The show that Cirque is producing, has nothing to do with the building of the 'E-Resort'. The ARIA resort is build between the Bellagio and Monte Carlo, while the site for the 'E-Resort' is still occupied by the Harley Davidson café and the Hawaiian Village.

hello! thanks for broadcasting our news about sept 26. however, you have one error. the ceremony list is closed. it is not open to the public. the star is being unveiled at the ceremony to invited guests only. it is a small room and there are no seats left. sorry for the inconvenience. the star will be in the sidewalk by sept 30 for all to see.

Narek, to answer your questions about how the star program works, and really, how it works for all star programs in the US, you should take a few minutes to visit our website and read the question page. i cannot post the link here, but search for a star for elvis vegas in your browser, and you will find it. no star is ever paid for by govt money or some general fund. a sponsor has to volunteer to handle it and raise the funds. the viva club was proud to accept the challenge! :)
