A Legendary Performer Volume 5

February 21, 2005 | Music
After more than twenty years, A Legendary Performer - Volume 5 will soon be issued by the Madison import label. Like the earlier editions in this series, it will contain many previously unavailable performances from every phase of Elvis' career, and include a 16 page, illustrated memory log. Every effort has been made to use the best available sources.

Among Volume 5's highlights are unedited masters of "Night Life" and "Yellow Rose Of Texas/The Eyes Of Texas," plus an unreleased take of "The Climb" from the "Viva Las Vegas" sessions; live August 1969 tracks taken from reel-to-reel; undubbed acetates of "I've Got Confidence," "It's A Matter Of Time" and "Woman Without Love"; and previously unreleased concert recordings from 1975 (Las Vegas ... undated, but neither March 22 MS nor March 30 DS) and 1976 (Cincinnati, March 21).

This sounds like a very listenable bootleg to me, in opposition to all those audience releases. Great coverart too!
drghanem1 wrote on February 21, 2005
Is Elvis wearing his very first jumpsuit on the front-cover? Great CD, I´ll be looking forward getting it.
Mofoca22 wrote on February 22, 2005
i didnt know there was a 3 or 4. i have 1 and 2 but cheaper run down versions of it. where could i get them all in there entirety?
Eddie White wrote on February 22, 2005
Absolutely amazing tracks. Pity about the cover art. Not at all flattering.
Bryan wrote on February 22, 2005
I agree with Lex ! great coverart!..and a very very promising tracklisting i will get this one for sure.. and to Eddie White " pity about the cover art''? '' not flattering''? what's wrong with it?. it's a great picture of our man looking absolutely stunning to me and many more agree with me i'm sure. this is a fabulous photo i have never ever seen it before! i really look forward to this cd!

looks good looks . good cover too but why oh why in the 50's didnt elvis live the 60's and 70's ??

I,m glad to see there is a new legendary performer coming, after so many years. I only hope this album will be brought on vinyl, like the other four, and not only on cd. Looks nicer to complete my own collection....
jb gude wrote on February 22, 2005
While the cover art is indeed good ...remember this is NOT an official RCA/BMG release. It is an import. What makes this exciting is apparently we will get to hear " The Climb" even if it is not by Elvis and a stereo version of " 500 miles".
ElvisZone wrote on February 22, 2005
sorry Sony/BMG that was Madison I see now!
Tony C wrote on February 22, 2005
"A Legendary Performer" Vol.3 and Vol.4 were issued in 1979 and 1984. These have never been issued on CD, only on vinyl and cassette. I have very fond memories of this series. Discovering "Harbor Lights" on the second volume was a revelation. It's a shame the CD versions of the first two are incomplete. Perhaps these could be future deluxe 7" FTD releases, re-printing the very nice booklets. This bootleg one looks very interesting.

Am I missing something here? I know it says "Madison" but is this a bootleg or an official Sony/BMG release? Too bad if it's just a bootleg as I will not be able to obtain a copy. I rarely buy bootlegs and they are hard to find anyway, besides the exhorbitant prices they ask for. I kinda like the track listing and the cover is great. I too have never seen this photo of Elvis. So how about an official release BMG?
glennd wrote on February 22, 2005
Wow. When this is the correct list of songs it is a gas. Is this CD from BMG or from Madison ? I think it will be great if BMG release all 5 on FTD. I am sure gonna buy it and I will not be the only one. Ernst, you know what to do ! TCB.

This will be very interesting to have in any fans collection. - I certainly will look out for this. I have the other 4 vols .on vinyl and Cd. There have been a lot of compilation CDS over the pasrt few months and now we ( fans ) need other material. Lets have more CDS like these in future .

Will this be available in stores- i wonder - i would like to know
Deke Rivers 6 wrote on February 22, 2005
Will this be available in vinyal I wonder. Wisdom Of The Ages what's that doing on there, this has to be Elvis' worst film & soundtrack. Nothing outstanding here by the look's of it, but, time will tell !
sdeahkcid wrote on February 22, 2005
Deke Wisdom of the ages is a good little song, i like it and its much better than Yellow rose of Texas or Woman without love for that matter. See theres always someone who likes the songs you think are rubbish so dont be so matter of fact in your opinions please and i like Harum Holiday, a tounge in cheak comody film, watch it for what it is and you just might enjoy it.
Hans Otto wrote on February 22, 2005
I agree with you JB GUDE. However, Elvis is in fact also on "The Climb" track from Viva Las Vegas. Except the informal studio jam in "Elvis On Tour" it is probably Elvis' only studio track in which he just participated as a backup singer.
pacer1965 wrote on February 22, 2005
Where did they get the cover from ? I love it I have never seen that photo of Elvis before
Tony C wrote on February 22, 2005
The label that this CD will be released on, Madison, have already brought us some great bootlegs. They have mainly concentrated on live soundboard recordings, "Breathing Out Fire", "Event Number 8", "Don't Think Twice", "Cajun Tornado", "A Capital Performance", "Fly T-R-O-U-B-L-E", and "Movin' Mobile", as well as "Totally Stung" which featured 1958 studio out-takes. I look forward to this release greatly. Regarding the comment about the high price of bootlegs, in the late 1970's and early 1980's, I was paying the same price for bootleg vinyl LP's as I am for these CD's. Taking inflation into account, these now work out a fraction of the price of bootlegs in days gone by.

Don't support these theives. It is disgracefull that elvisnews would promote it. Worse to suggest that this is part of the Legendary Performer series. Liars and cheats!!!
ElvisZone wrote on February 22, 2005
Home Is Where The Heart Is, Night Life, Yellow Rose Of Texas/The Eyes Of Texas, The Climb, Do The Vega, Wisdom Of The Ages, Easy Come, Easy Go, I've Got Confidence, Please Don't Drag That String Around. What does Elvis Think and say about that CD if he is a live?
Lex wrote on February 22, 2005
Joemin, you don't have to buy it! To me ElvisNews is not supporting it, they only mention it, since it is news... in opposition to the release of a certain woman's new album. And thieves? Okay, it may not be legal, but I consider all those that copy Sony/BMG releases or FTD as worser thieves. I will buy this release, not steal it :-)
Sean Ryan wrote on February 22, 2005
'The Climb' was issued on the FTD label of Viva Las Vegas and Elvis can only be heard talking between takes.Even though he apparently was one of the back up singers.Dont see the point in putting this track on there.Certainly wouldnt say this was one of the highlights unless Elvis is singing this song on his own, now that would be legendary.
sdeahkcid wrote on February 22, 2005
Looks like a good cd. Lex I dont think there is such a word as "worser".
James69 wrote on February 22, 2005
joemin, you don't like it? Don't buy it! Simple as that. I for one will get it the day it comes out. I am surprised that it was not released by bootleggers sooner. Track listing is interesting, nice rare pic for the cover, plus a 16 page booklet, a must for every fan!
Ricardo Bolaños wrote on February 22, 2005

I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me how and where I could get this album or other Elvis releases like this one. I have tried ebay, but there's very little there. Thank you, i would really love to get this Madison release.

In the old days when RCA mishandled the Presley legacy of wonderful studio outakes and great live recordings. The bootleggers never let us down with their fantastic "finds" There must still be plenty of Elvis gems out there. And just as RCA were slow on the uptake likewise so are BMG. This will be a further addition to my ever expanding Elvis collection of back door classics.
