40th Anniversary 'Comeback Special' CD Box-set

May 13, 2008 | Music
Elvis insiders are buzzing with rumours of a likely '68 Comeback Special' CD Box-set worldwide release this August - to coincide with the 40th Anniversary of the ground - breaking TV show. The box-set is supposed to include "the complete 68 Comeback sessions".

BMG could not confirm this particular release this week but did note that "There are a few Elvis releases this year... including 'The Greatest Hits' Tin-Box in July and another 3CD Tin Box set for September ... plus another release."

Update May 14, 2008: according to ElvisMatters BMG has confirmed the release. Slowly but surely the first details for this Summer's Sony/BMG release leak out. Confirmed are the plans for a "40 years after" release of 'the best of the Comeback Special'. Although there is talk about a box set, the song list nor the amount of CD's are known at this time. The 'box set' is scheduled for a worldwide release aimed at the general public, thus indicating that fans don't have to expect too many outtakes.

Funny I was just asking if we would ever see another boxset again. But what could be possibly new here? Havent we had it all? I wont buy re-hashed stuff anymore, plus Id rather watch it than listen to it.

Who cares about unreleased stuff - we can look forward to a new 'Greatest Hits' its all too much!

I think they kinda saturated the market with the Comeback-thing the last years. How about some other, overlooked part in Elvis' carreer?

It will be nice to get all the available material in one Box.

I've got the original soundtrack album on vinyl and cd. I've got the Memories 2 cd set. I've got the Burbank '68 and Let Yourself Go FTDs. AND I've got the 3 DVD EPE '68 Comeback set. Do I really need more? Do I really need (or for that matter, want everything?) My first reaction is no. There will really have to be something very special on this box set to persuade me to change my mind. This really seems like massive overkill.

And there is 'Tiger Man' cd too.. I got a feeling that 'On tour' box set would be a better idea.

"Tiger Man." Yeah, I forgot about that one. I've got that one, too.

I think the older 68 Comeback releases are now out of print, and they never should have been deleted in the first palce. My guess is that this box is being issued to rectify that situation. Incidentally , it should have been a box set right from the beginning, not "Memories" "Tigerman", etc.
