I Got Lucky

Rating:
4.2 / 5

Words & Music: Ben Weisman Fred Wise Dolores Fuller

Never found a four leaf clover to bring good luck to me
No rabbit's foot no lucky star no magic wishing tree
But I got lucky, yes I got lucky
When I found you, oh yeah!

Got no rainbow around my shoulder, no horseshoe on my door
But I got you to hold me tight and who could ask for more
Oh I got lucky, yes I got lucky
When I found you,

I always walk around with all my fingers crossed
I'm afraid the love I found just might get lost
So won't you tell me that you love me, hurry up and name the day
And then I'll know that my good luck is really here to stay
Oh I got lucky, yes I got lucky
When I found you

I always walk around with all my fingers crossed
I'm afraid the love I found just might get lost
So won't you tell me that you love me, hurry up and name the day
And then I'll know that my good luck is really here to stay
Oh I got lucky, yes I got lucky
When I found you
Oh I got lucky, yes I got lucky
When I found you

Another very good song from a very good movie "Kid Galahad". This song would have been capable of drawing sales for the soundtrack EP if "King Of The Whole Wide World" had been made into a single (it should have been). This one is catchy, upbeat and would have gotten airplay just based on the fact you could "twist" to it (watch Elvis in the movie do his own version of the twist).

Very good catchy song, very commercial and yes, probably a hit single if released in 1962.

This was a good soundtrack and a pretty good movie considering what was to follow. This song is strong, very pop, early 60's and with a twist sound that was all the rage. Could have been a hit, but I still prefer King Of The Whole Wide World from this EP.

For me, this one is up there with "Follow That Dream" for one of my absolute fav movie songs ever. Other than "Whistling Tune", I like this whole soundtrack a lot

A pleasant enough number as all the other songs were from the film.

Love it and the movie "Kid Galahad". Joan Blackman is a fox!

I always liked this song and the entire E.P. The movie was good too with a good script, and good cast. I remember hearing King Of The Whole Wide World a lot on the New York radio stations back in the late summer of 1962. I was surprised it wasn't a bigger hit, but it was sandwiched in between two hit big singles ( She's Not You, and Return To Sender) and came out not long after the Follow That Dream E.P. 1962 was a strong year chart wise for Elvis.

Best track is "King Of The Whole Wide World" the alternative version even better with the Sax solo, I assume it's "Boots" Randolf. But this track is ok though, better than "Whistling Tune".

I love music and the movie. Always El! ;)

This is such a beautiful and fun song and it's one of Elvis' very finest movie songs from the 1960's.

I liked this one better when I was a lot younger. There is also a version with a longer intro, which serves no purpose.

I think this song charted fairly successfully in parts of Europe. A nice slice of chirpy upbeat film pop that is much more than average, but such was the standard of the Kid Galahad EP, I would only place it number 4 from that film.

It's a fun song. Did "I got lucky" have the same meaning in the early 60s as it does today? The Camden LPs in the early 70s cheapened the brand equity of Elvis' new output.

I've always liked this song. Even better when the extended stereo version came along. It was released in EU in the 60's as a single c/w Girls Girls Girls. Nice one! In Scandinavia Kid Galahad was released as a 4 track EP and a single, King Of The Whole Wide World/Home Is Where The Heart is. It did well over here and even reached the no1 spot in Norway!

I love this happy song!

A definite 5-star song from the Extended Play 45 "Kid Galahad". My consensus exactly this song could definitely have been a hit single if released on it's own. Goes to show, that all movie tracks weren't all bad; this one is primo!
