House of Sand

Words & Music: Giant/ Baum/ Kaye
Oh you can take a whole lot of sand
And build a castle on the beach
And though you mold it and you plan
Still you got nothing in your reach
One little slip and it tumbles down
One wrong step and it crumbles all around
Like a house without love, that's sure to fall apart
A house of sand is an empty work of art
You can build a tower of clay
But if you ask my advice
Well it is worthless as I say
I got no heart it's cold as ice
One little slip and it tumbles down
One wrong step and it crumbles all around
Like a house without love, that's sure to fall apart
A house of sand is an empty work of art
One little slip and it tumbles down
One wrong step and it crumbles all around
Like a house without love, that's sure to fall apart
A house of sand is an empty work of art
A house of sand is an empty work of art
A house of sand is an empty work of art
Recorded: 1965/07/27, first released on Paradise, Hawaiian Style

Not a great song, but it's a fun, lightweight song to listen to. Elvis' singing is really good.
I actually have this soundtrack album via FTD and unlike most folks, I actually like the soundtrack And the movie. Beats the heck out of the soundtracks "Frankie and Johnny" and especially "Girl Happy" (now there's a real lousy movie & soundtrack).
I enjoy the movie as a nice picture postcard tour of Hawaii. However the soundtrack mostly stinks. This song is one of my guilty pleasures.
It's not the worst song on one of elvis most terrible records, but that doesn't say much. 1 star.
Yes I agree the guitar work just about saves this average song from oblivion. This is a performance which does not seem to receive much commitment or feeling from Elvis who just appears to go through the motions. - 2 stars tops.
Good lyrics that make sense. The guitar work is nice too.
This is an Elvis song that I've never liked. It's from the worst Elvis movie soundtrack album "Paradise, Hawaiian Style".
When they set out to do a sequel of "Blue Hawaii", they really seemed to come up with inferior material at every turn. In "Blue Hawaii" we had "Rock-a-Hula, Baby" and "Slicin' Sand". With "Blue Hawaii 2"...errr "Paradise, Hawaiian Style"' we have "House Of Sand". This one is not terrible, but is no where near the equal of the "Blue Hawaii" tunes in performance or production. Two stars at best.
This is my least favorite Elvis soundtrack, but I guess this one I can tolerate every now and then. Nice guitar work saves it.
