Drums of the islands you're beating in my heart
You're with me no matter where I roam
If ever I wander if ever we're apart
I know that you will lead me home

If I should journey across the deep blue sea
I'll never forget these coral shores
Drums of the islands I hear you calling me
And I'll return forever yours

I love each valley each grain of sand each hill
The flowers the music of the isles
These are the things I love and always will
Though I may roam ten thousand miles
Recorded: 1965/07/26, first released on Paradise, Hawaiian Style

This is pure Crap! And in 1965/66 its more than that!

Interesting; I was just listening to this song recently. Not a bad tune compared to a lot of the other "crap" he put out on various bad soundtrack albums.

Not a bad soundtrack song. Better than most around this time. But really, 3 or 4 substandard movies most years, not good for Elvis's career. One good movie each year and live / TV shows would have been the way to go along with a well worked studio album include a couple of good singles. Enough to keeps the fans interested.

I actually do like it. If it had been edited down a little bit, it would've been a neat way to kick off the '73 Aloha special. Transitioning from the ending of this song directly into the opening, pounding drums of "See See Rider" would've worked fine.

One of the better songs from the film which loses some of its lustre on record as opposed to the film where it fits like a glove. Enjoy it when I give it the occasional spin so 3 stars from me.

Was the original plan to have Elvis continuing to star in beach movies in his 40s. 50s and 60s? "Drums of the Island" is an OK song from a sub par LP.

This is the 3rd best song on the album. This Is My Heaven, Sand Castles and Drums Of The Island. That's all folks....

A very enjoyable song with a hawaiian flavour.

This is such a beautiful and fun song and it's from a soundtrack album that has a big amount of atrocious songs

One of the better songs from the PHS soundtrack album. This song is based on an old chant, Bula La'ie. The song appears twice in the movie and has a nice sound with the drums and choir like singing with the Jordanaires and the Melo Men. Three stars from me.

The "Aloha Oe" song for the movie and soundtrack "Paradise, Hawaiian Style". This one is pretty good and I give it two 2 1/2 stars as a stand alone song and it fits in well in the movie. This track has more of the feel of "Blue Hawaii" than most the other tunes from PHS.
