Carny Town

Rating:
2.7 / 5

Words & Music: Fred Wise Randy Starr

Aha-ha hurry, hurry step this way
Aha-ha hurry, hurry step this way
Now the show you're going to see is strictly high class
There'll be ten hoola dancers shaking their grass
So step right up and put your money down
This way to Carny Town

We got a man so skinny you can see his bones
We play on his ribs like a xylophone
With a pair of spoons we get a rockin' song
You'll hear it all, in Carny Town

Hurry, hurry, hurry, the house is almost full
We got a two headed cow and that's no bull
There's a man who swallows swords and he never gets hurt
He eats razor blades for dessert
He's just about the sharpest guy around
You'll see him here, in Carny Town

Aha-ha hurry, hurry step this way
Aha-ha hurry, hurry step this way
Aha-ha hurry, hurry step this way
Aha-ha hurry, hurry step this way
Aha-ha I say we're gonna win
I said hurry up

Fun piece of movie fluff.

Col. Tom Parker's Theme Song...

As those middle period Elvis movies go, "Roustabout"--the movie and the soundtrack--are pretty good. This track is slight, but not bad. The soundtrack has better songs on it, but this one works just fine too.

Within the framework of the movie it has a nice flavor. For those who enjoy listening to Elvis and his warm soothing voice, this is a nice listen.

I really like the movie Roustabout. This song is only fluff but does have some fun lyrics. Razor blazers and sharpest guy around, Cow and thats no bull. Taken for what it is, its enjoyable.

By this time the rot had truly set in and the films and their soundtracks were becoming an embarrassment for fans like myself who were there from the start.Compare the songs in this film to the Beatles Hard Days Night, and I'm no Beatles fan!

The movie and this song were corny, straight out of the heart of the Colonel who probably liked this movie best. This soundtrack had a few good tunes but did not derserve to hit # 1 on the charts. Shows the loyalty of Elvis fans to buy any product that came out. Soon that would change.

I just bought an original 'Roustabout' LP from 1964, in excellent condition. I love the songs from that movie, but my personal favourite is the fabulous 'Big Love, Big Heartache'. Now I just need a record player...

The worst track on the "Roustabout" album and a song that while it fits the movie, it could have and should have been better. Luckily it is very short so it doesn't get in the way of the other 10 tracks when you listen to the LP ("It's Carnival Time" is a lesser tune, but the other nine are enjoyable). Songs like this I can take as long as they are the minority rather than the norm. Think "Ito Eats" from "Blue Hawaii". The problem came on the "Kissin Cousins", "Harum Scarum" and "Paradise, Hawaiian Style" soundtracks where the two star and under songs were the norm. If those three albums had not been released, I think Elvis' soundtracks would be held in much higher esteem.

The begining of the end of the golden years. Could have been so much better, even with the movies and there songs. RCA could have removed the soundtrack fillers like CT and replaced them with good songs from studio cuts like It Hurts Me or What now what where to.

Bad song and as usual Randy Starr had a hand in it.

This isn't a great song, but it's a funny and unique Elvis song that I've always enjoyed listening to and the song fits very well into the movie "Roustabout" too.

It has clever lyrics, there'll be ten hoola dancers shaking their grass, when you suspect ass. Elvis ends with a short blues shouting. He had the blues on his mind, not this ditty. I like it though.

There is a flavour of other rock songs here including Dixieland Rock at the beginning, and although a film filler could have been, if longer, developed into something memorable. Fairly enjoyable but at a duration of 70 seconds much too short.

Crap! Absolute crap compared to the overall soundtrack album.

Fun song in the movie. But the weakest song in the movie and on the soundtrack album. As noted, the album did have some good songs.
