Reviews
Once again from Las Vegas, this audience recording features a great show and 20 tracks from August 21, 1971 and 6 songs from August 22, 1971. The performances are all very good. I’m Leavin’ and Bridge over Troubled Waters, both beautifully done. Unfortunately, this is not a soundboard recording. Still it is interesting to hear from an audience perspective. You don’t hear a sterile, clean sound, you hear the room acoustics and audience reactions. Although a combination of the two with less tape hiss, or noise would be great.
My first reaction was this was a waste (considering sound quality and all the other CD’s that are now available). After listening to it (and turning down the high frequencies on my EQ), I felt it was a worthwhile addition to my collection, even though it’s one that doesn’t often find it’s way into my CD player.
To sum this up this CD, on the positive side it is a very good show along with good song selection. On the negative side it is an audience recording, although I’ve heard much worse. For someone beginning their collection, look at other titles. If a sound board recording of this show ever emerges, it will be a must own.
This CD illustrates the performer that Elvis should be remembered for. Unfortunately most Elvis laymen only remember his 2 or 3 bad years out of 20 years of performing. Funny how some people can only remember the negative.........
