Elvis visited the Tennessee State Employment Security office, listing his address as 462 Alabama, where the family had moved to an apartment in a large Victorian home at a rent of $50 a month. Elvis filled out the application carefully with a pencil, noting under "leisure time activities": "Sings, playing ball, working on car, going to movies", and indicating that he would like to work as a machinist. At the end of the application form, the interviewer noted that his appearance as a "rather flashily dressed 'playboy' type was denied, by fact had worked hard past 3 summers, wanted a job dealing with people.
