Elvis and the band flew to New York City from Atlanta, arriving at 4.03 p.m.

Elvis received a telephone call from his parents; they announced that they had found the ideal home; it was called Graceland…..

March 16, 1971

Dr. Nick flew in from Memphis with Dr. Meyer, an ophthalmologist, who treated Elvis at his hotel before admitting him to Nashville's Baptist Hospital, where a diagnosis of iritis and secondary glaucoma was confirmed. Elvis was visited by Barbara Leigh and Tennessee governor Winfield Dunn.
At the studio Felton Jarvis resumed work, overdubbing background vocal in anticipation of Elvis' return.

March 16, 1974

Elvis performed at the Mid-South Coliseum, Memphis, Tennessee at 2.30 and 8.30 p.m.
This was Elvis' first appearance in his hometown since 1961 and the 4 shows that were initially booked, were sold out immediately. So the Colonel added a fifth one, which were the perfect occasion for a live homecoming album and so the perfect way to avoid having to coax Elvis back into the studio. Elvis seemed both happy and mildly amused to be there and he declared: "Hello Memphis. It's good to be home".

This day was the first of a 3 day rehearsals period beginning each day at noon. Like always Elvis tried a lot of songs which were never performed on stage.
