" Congratulations on your appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show and your visit to America STOP We hope your engagement will be successful and your visit pleasant STOP Sincerely Elvis and the Colonel."

Elvis closed out what had been a generally good engagement, in which he had been described as being "in good humor" and "at the top of his form". At the same time he had continued to exhibit the kind of erratic personal behavior that had shown up increasingly over the past year, like shooting out a chandelier and several television sets.
