February 21, 1967

This was the day Elvis was supposed to report to United Artists in Hollywood for the start of production on Clambake. The Colonel realized it would be almost impossible to get Elvis away from his new ranch, so he had arranged for the cast insurance exam to take place at 5.30 p.m. at RCA's Studio B in Nashville, where soundtrack recording was now scheduled to take place. Elvis arrived in a rented Learjet and after discussing song selection for the film, recorded until 6.00 a.m. the next morning. It was obvious to all present that Elvis had little interest in the movie songs. Except for You Don't Know Me, on which he expended 21 takes. However Elvis was still not satisfied with the result and would re-record the song later.
