White Christmas (EPE's 2005 Christmas Card)

January 01, 2006 | Music
Elvis Presley Enterprises recently send out their annual Christmas card to the Presidents of the officially recognized fan clubs as their "thank you".

Design

This year the designers at EPE came up with a very stylish design; a white cover - matching the title song, "White Christmas" - with an ice crystal and the words "White Christmas" and "Elvis" blind embossed (meaning that a design is pressed onto the cover, making the image and words appear). The cover itself is a cardboard slipcase. We have been critical on the design of these CDs in the past, but this year we love it.

(The actual cover looks much better, we had to fiddle around with Photoshop a bit to make the details visible).

Content

The CD contains Elvis' standard version of Irvin Berlin's "White Christmas". Besides the CD the single package also holds a little note by Priscilla and Lisa Marie, thanking the fans and wishing them all the best for 2006.

When you play it on your PC the on-line media player recognizes the CD as "You Took Advantage of Me" by Linda Ronstadt with Nelson Riddle and His Orchestra.

Conclusion

A nice gesture from EPE to the fan clubs, helping to keep Elvis alive. Let's hope these gestures don't end up on eBay.

Message by Priscilla and Lisa Marie:

Dear Friends,

We cannot thank you enough for your warm and enthusiastic embrace of the Elvis By The Presleys TV/DVD/book project, which was introduced earlier this year.

It meant so much to us, to our family and to everyone involved in making this very personal statement. The success and positive reception of this labor of love by you, as well as by new Elvis audiences, is a source of great pride for us personally, along with the Elvis Presley Enterprises (EPE) staff and the producers.

Over the past year, an exciting change at EPE that had been quietly in the making for some time took you by surprise. EPE partnered with Bob Sillerman and his new company CKX. This is a wonderful development for the growth of EPE and its ability to nurture the Elvis Presley legacy and to reach even larger audiences for Elvis in every part of the world, now and in generations to come. It is also a great development in EPE's ability to further its outreach to his most ardent fans. We look forward to an even brighter future in the world of Elvis, and to sharing all the excitement of it with you every step of the way.

Thanks so much to you and your Elvis fan club members for all your tireless efforts to support and honor Elvis Presley's legacy in 2005, particularly when you have reached out in service to your community in his memory. With our abiding love, respect and appreciation to all of you, we wish you a joyous holiday season and a great 2006.
Sincerely,

Priscilla Presley
Lisa Marie Presley

as a club president, it's nice to get this item. a little reward for my hard work promoting THE MAN. what i did with my cd was auction it off to my club members. (i didnt want to keep it) the funds will go to a charity of the winner's choice in elvis' name. i think this a nice to way to spread the good cheer around. i would like club presidents to consider this idea instead of selling at ebay :(. as to the content, yes, the cover is quite lovely. embossed. the back cover is a glossy black and white photo of the santa and reindeer decorations on the lawn at graceland. much better than last year which featured elvis in gi blues sitting on a couch between the 2 kids we was baby sitting which didnt match the song Merry Christmas Baby.

i took another look at the 2004. elvis has a bunch of babies on both sides of him on the couch. so the cover isnt great, but the song IS!!! it's longer, from the front and end of the song, and somehow it's remixed (?), because the instruments sound different. it's like an outtake, and that makes it worth keeping, to me!! :)
