The Country Songs

March 31, 2002 | Music
This is a new release in Green Hill’s “Legendary Masters Collection”, for us Elvis’ fans it is the follow up to their “Christmas Songs” CD from 2001.

Design

Again a simple but tasteful design: a very well chosen country photo graces the cover. Yellow is the theme colour for this release. No liner notes this time, just the song information.

Content

The set itself is okay, all songs have that "country feel", looking at the latest BMG Country release "The Country Side Of Elvis" the only new song on this release is 'If I Were You".

For "Help Me make It Through The Night", "There Goes my Everything", "Guitar Man" and 'Green Green Grass of Home" they used both alternate versions remastered released on the "Great Country Songs" CD and remixed versions from the "Guitar Man" album. This has the strange effect that there are a lot of different "sounds" on this CD. Some oldies like "I Forgot To Remember To Forget", some songs "He'll Have To Go" with with a country feel we know from Elvis and finally the remixed versions which sound more modern than you expect with "Guitar Man" as the best example.

Conclusion

More than on the "Country Side Of Elvis" on which the songs were used in a chronological order this release misses the relaxed feel most country albums have due through the different "sounds". On the other hand, there's something for everybody and you can get some alternate versions.
