Tennessee Starlight

Released by the Straight Arrow label is the CD “Tennessee Starlight”, did it hit bull’s eye?

Design

The design standard set by the Madison label is followed by more and more import labels. Also by the Straight Arrow label, this release comes with a full color 16 pages booklet containing a lot of images from the actual concert, a good review of the concert, placing it in historical perspective, and facts on February 1977 tour.

Content

This release contains a remastered audience recording, but we must say, the person who remastered the tape knew what he was doing, it sounds good. We must actually say that the same goes for Elvis. Although only a few months before his last concert this performance in his home state is o.k. to listen too.

After an energetic opening with “C C Rider” and the “I Got A Woman / Amen” medley he wins over the audience. He delivers some o.k. versions of his personal favorites “You Gave Me A Mountain”, “My Way” (reading the lyrics, a sign the theme of the song was nearer to him than the world expected) and a surprisingly energetic version of “Polk Salad Annie”. After that Elvis knows what to do, “Wise men know, when it’s time, time to go…” and so he does.

Conclusion

For a well packed audience recording this Straight Arrow release hit bull’s eye.

Ronald, although I can understand your point if you are one of the completists (I stopped being one a while ago), but less lucky people who missed the original releases of those re-releases might be happy with them. I'm not waiting for either... more audience recordings or re-releases. In this special case I won't fall since I can't imagine that the combination of audience recording and 1977 can give me any more pleasure.

i've been hunting for years for some bootlegs from the 90's. and because of a lot of luck and patience, I succeeded to track them down for my collection, some on cd-r, but that does not bother me. I refuse to pay 80 euros for an old bootleg... What i am saying, if I doubt the quality of the particular cd, I'm looking for the results of the cd on the internet and take a look in the book "the concert years" , then I decide to buy it whether or not. if you are really doing your best you can buy the original bootlegs for a fair price, but you must be lucky and know who to contact to get those cd's. So that's why i'm looking forward to hear the next release 'going back in time" Orlando 15/2 1977. I'm a die hard elvis fan, but surely not a completist. i do not have that much space left in my cd rack!
