Sunrise – Chinese Edition

September 16, 2005 | Music
One of the first official Elvis Presley releases from the Chinese mainland is this 2CD edition of Elvis classic SUN compilation “Sunrise”.

Design

As with many of the less legal releases from this part of the world this edition comes in a great package. The slipcase and booklet have a metallic look (probably what we can expect on the upcoming “Hitstory” box. Besides the CD the slipcase contains the booklet (a fold-out poster), the lyrics and a real poster. We wonder why the last one is added for two reasons. The first, the poster is of Elvis in his army fatigue in Germany and secondly a poster. Why add a poster to a small package folded up so many times, no one will hang a wrinkled poster on the wall. And someone should do a proof-read of the tracks, we found several errors in the text and even incomplete titles on the back of the CD, while spelled correctly on the booklet ... But still, overall a great looking package.

Content

The package may be great, the content is not. Not the actual content, Elvis’ SUN recording remain classics sung with a lot of feeling. But the just 20 short tracks spread over two CDs when one disk would be more that sufficient. Who decided to delete half the number of tracks when you release two discs and who selected the tracks to be deleted? Elvis at SUN without “That’s All Right” … need we say more?

Conclusion

A great looking package, but that’s it.
