Elvis – The Ultimate Live Collection

February 15, 2005 | Video
Recently Classic Rock released this DVD compilation. Is it a valuable addition to your collection?

Design

As you can see the front cover is simple but tasteful. The inside of the box shows pictures both from the TV shows in the 50’s as from Aloha. The menu is simple yet effective. A large record next to the same picture as on the front gives you access to the three chapters “The Rock ‘n’ Roll Era”, “Live By Satellite” and the bonus section, as well to there respective track listings. The contrast in the menu when browsing through it is a bit hard to see.

Content

We moved to the front of our seat upon starting the first section. Never before we had seen a part of the first Sullivan show in this quality! Unfortunately the image jumps a bit when Elvis is moving fast, probably due to the compression used. The good quality stays until the Stage Show material starts. From then on the quality is what we are used too, unfortunately. It is about time that someone stands up and starts to remaster the historic material rightfully, and put it in the right chronological order.

The nearly complete Aloha show is from the pre remastered video era. It is very bright, so you need to adjust your TV or wear sunglasses to see it properly.
The sound of the DVD is okay, but not spectacular.

Conclusion
A strange compilation, especially looking at the remark on the cover “This DVD has not been approved in any way by the estate of Elvis Presley”, which estate happens to own the TV shows. The 50’s stuff is pretty much complete, so those that haven’t that on DVD yet, should buy this one. Others can skip it easily, without missing something.

This is a dvd. What do you expect Elvis singing live in his lounge at Graceland to his cronies. The only dvd that would hit the right note would be the April 1972 on tour concerts which we all hope will happen. Until then we've got this a bit of a miss-match of historical previously seen footage albeit of inferior quality.

We need a music dvd from Elvis ranging from the 50s with songs like "Got a lot o livin to do" thru to "Return to sender" to later film songs and 68 songs then 70s. maybe even new vids made up for the 69 songs etc.

Cmon - Lets get ELVIS ON TOUR on DVD. This is what we have been waiting for to accompany the other dvd sets. Does any one have any idea when this will be released. - Its ok to have a few compilation dvds for a collection. i have ordered this title and i hope to pick it up later this week. - I believe that there is footage on this dvd from the 56 TV appearances and from Aloha from Hawaii. - I surely will get this one for my collection , but come on - lets get E.O.T. before its too late. Lets not wait too long for this. I have seen in the past that they were showing at some convention some more footage from Elvis on Tour. Surely there must be extra footage from this film. - Well im not talkin about E.0.T. at this time., just -The Ultimate Live Collection - DVD .- I will let you all know what i think of this dvd after i have viewed it over the next few days .- So keep a look out on my article soon .-
