I wondered why Take 5 of Old Shep was used as opposed to the master but according to Keith Flynn this was actually issued in error on early copies of the LP 'Elvis'. Just listened to it and I can understand why as it seems as good as the master.

(Note to Gorse: The master of 'Old Shep' is included as well as the alternative take 5 that inadvertently and briefly slipped out into the public domain back in the day). DES mono-to-stereo conversion technology represents an incredible step-up on what was possible only five or so years ago. But it is still in its infancy and I think this MRS release is premature. Moreover, this is a 2-CD set, the second disc comprising the mono masters already issued by MRS on their earlier '56 Sessions compendium. So a single CD of stereo remixes would have been quite sufficient. If MRS are going to venture into DES stereo territory, I would have been more likely to bite had the bait been in the form of an inclusive 4-CD Complete '50s set.
