FTD announced the release of Elvis: St. Paul to Wichita - October '74, released as a 5" digipack, and taken from the original soundboard source, this 2-CD set features Elvis in excellent form from the fall tour of 1974. Elvis was in great form and using a variety of repertoire. The set will be released mid February.

Same old tired songs, but hopefully FTD will at least get the speed of the original recordings right on the CDs.
I find it interesting when fans complain about the same old songs and why didn't he change the selected list. The problem for us is that we via these releases can now go to 100's of concerts each year as opposed to the average fan in the 1970's who perhaps would have seen him a couple of times over 3 years, and absorbed the sheer vibrancy of the occasion.
We will hear if Elvis is in a good mood. Wasn´t it at that time around that he fell out of the car caused of medication ???

Gorse, "same old tired songs" wasn't a complaint... just an observation. I will actually purchase this set under 2 conditions...
#1 - If Elvis is in a good, upbeat mood
#2 - If FTD has the true, correct speed of the recordings transferred to the CDs ... I'll be waiting to read the reviews.
Correct speed !? These shows are unavailable and afaik new in this form as soundboard but why do you speak of speed correction did you hear the tapes ???
If you own a stack of Elvis concert CDs from a certain year and play them often there will be a sameness to them. Whether in '69 or '74. That's just the way it/Elvis was. As for adding missing songs from a certain tape by borrowing from a different concert on the same tour or whatever, I believe that's been done, but there were complaints, Elvis fans are spoiled. And the complainiest.
Gladyslove, are you not aware that FTD has released several soundboards in the past that play too slowly? ...and many fans rightfully complained about that. The FTD team didn't take the time to make corrections from the 40+ year old cassettes when they transferred the recordings to CD. That's why I'll be waiting for reviews on this set.
Yes, folks I know that. There is a discussion in every Elvis forum. But we don´t know right now if these concerts were in the correct speed or not.
2 shows never released before in any form and not the worst from this year and you get 2 for 1 as always.
What more can a collectors label do for the fans. And they can only release what Elvis legacy gives. Some are really spoilt.
You say they can only release what they have. Ok, bring on Elvis On Tour!!!! How long must we wait. No excuses!! One show has already seen a release on close up box set. So I know it’s possible!
I only speak of soundboard recordings..nothing more.
santiagisitestar, Sony/FTD have missed the boat (so-to-speak) with the Elvis On Tour material. Just go with the bootlegs that are already available. They sound great!
I hope desperately the 4 shows recorded for ELVIS ON TOUR (1 figure already in close up) then I wish a treatment classic album for IN CONCERT and the CAMDEN albums flaming star, let's be friends, almost in love...
If anyone here has FTD contacts, please give them the message. Elvis On Tour Box Set, done properly, (for example with Hampton Roads missing songs included, Greensboro Bridge opening fixed, etc....) It would be their best release ever, and a guaranteed huge seller! Come on... If you worry about his legacy... Release April ‘72, Not more ‘76!! What are they thinking?
I've read all the talking about the same old boring songs/setlist. Well, if you listen to other artists, they all do it. Do you actually think that artists sing different songs each night? I own a lot of soundboards from Bruce Springsteen, Kiss and other bands, and mostly all they do is singing the same songs all over and over again. And why not? Bands play only one or two shows in each city and then they're gone. Hell, it could be worse: Kiss' front man Paul Stanley has the same monologues word for word!
For fans who don't own the bootlegs (some refuse to buy them) this could be interesting: a "new" Elvis live show. I have the South Bend october 1, 1974 FTD, i also have the october 10, 1974 bootlegs and i think i will get this one also. People should decide to buy it or not. Each month it is the same here: WE WANT ON TOUR, WE WANT ELVIS IN CONCERT. Well maybe this will not ever gonna happen, at least when we are all alive. Someone in here said: stick with the On Tour bootlegs. I have some boxsets from the "import" world: if you look closely to the lay-out and sound: it is (almost?) as good as the original stuff. So if you can't wait for FTD to release the same stuff, maybe some fans should contact some "import" dealers or look on ebay. The 'Elvis world' is bigger than only FTD.
Interesting and well said blackdiamond. As a quick exercise I looked at a site that lists concert content and for those folk that said he NEVER changed the set list. I compared Milwaukee June 15 1972 with Fort Worth June 15 1974. There were 12 songs out of 21 sung in Milwaukee that were not on Fort Worth and 9 songs out of 19 in Fort Worth that were not sung in Milwaukee. Then again perhaps NEVER actually does not mean 2 years !!

I'm hangin' five until the reviews come out on this one, or until someone puts it up on YouTube. In light of some of the recent disappointments from FTD, I won't be pre-ordering any soundboard releases unless I know they're going to be good. This was the tour in which Elvis really bottomed out during 1974. I didn't really like the South Bend gig from October 1st that featured on Dragon Heart. There were some good versions and some funny moments here and there, but it just didn't flow like a decent concert from our man should. Elvis was too frenetic and over improvised on too many serious songs and as a result the ballads lacked finesse.
My guess is that Elvis is in a better mood also vocally as in South Bend. Would FTD dare to release a concert if Elvis is in a bad mood and vocally a desaster ??? We will see or hear it soon.
Years ago I would be so glad and happy to get those shows on a CD, but nowadays it's just too much of the same. Not to blame FTD but Elvis did most of the time the same songs over and over again. And now and then a surprise in the tracklist. Long time ago I stopped buying those FTD live shows. Blackdiamond stated here that many other artists sing the same songs night after night but that is not (always) true. For example Willy DeVille or Daniel Norgren. I did go to many concerts of those two and they did NOT sing the same songs night after night. Same goes for Bruce Springsteen.
These live shows are for collectors of such stuff. Thats why we have the collectors label. The label can only release what Elvis legacy gives. I have over 700 concerts and I wont stop collecting.
Just arrived. Sound of CD 1 is very good, otherwise nothing special. Best songs are the bonus songs, especially It's midnight.

MemphisFan, CD 2 has almost the same good sound quality, maybe I should put it this way: CD 1 Excellent ++, CD 2 Excellent -. Elvis is in a good mood, both shows have a lot of tempo in them, sometimes I have the impression, he's a bit in a hurry. You gave me a mountain on CD 1 is very nice, as well, so over all, there's nothing that surprises me, but it's fun. About the speed, well, I'm not an expert, it is definitively not to slow, but whether it is a bit too fast or not, I really cannot say, because I can't compare it to another source. As I said, there's a lot of tempo. To me it sounds ok.
MemphisFan, Keith Flynn just put on his website, that CD 1 is from October 3 and wrongly dated on October 2. If it is too fast, I guess, he knows, too. I will try to contact him and ask for his opinion.
MemphisFan, Keith doesn't have the new CD yet. So I compared the speed to "Dragon heart", In my opinion, it's the same speed. So I think, everything is ok. The sound of the new the CD is so much superior to Dragon heart. So in terms of sound, this new CD is really outstanding! If you are not sure, whether to order it, or not, I would recommend you, to order it.
MemphisFan I can confirm now, by comparing the speed to other 74 concerts, I finally used even the official Live in Memphis CD. The speed is 100% correct.
The sound of this new FTD is fantastic..the speed is correct..and both shows are good. Nothing to moan about.
Does anyone out there have the JAT book from St.Paul to Fort Wayne ? Does it list the songs from October 2 ? If so does it differ from the St.Paul show from this FTD set ? Thank you Mike S for your views on it. Sounds positive so far.
