Elvis Live At Del Webb‘s

February 15, 2016 | Music

The new Touchdown release will be a good sounding audience recording from the midnight show on May 25, 1974 in Lake Tahoe. Also the recording isn’t fully complete, we thought as it is such a fine concert that it deserves a release. For your information we like to add, that the introductions of the musicians, the singers and the orchestra are missing. Also omitted from the recording is “Funny How Time Slips Away”. A different source includes the song, but the soundquality was really bad. So for a better listening experience we decided to not include it. “Big Boss Man” and “Can’t Help Falling In Love” are from the same source as the main part of the show, but both are probably from a lower-generation tape. They were first used for the old bootleg "Big Boss Man In Lake Tahoe" to complete the recording of the Dinner Show on May 24, 1974. Nonetheless the soundquality is nearly the same. Added to the midnight show from May 25, 1974 are three bonus songs from the dinner show on May 24, 1974: “Help Me”, “An American Trilogy” and “I’ll Remember You” (first released on the CD “Big Boss Man At Lake Tahoe”).

The description is something at least I had to read twice. Is this the best of the rest? "We filled up here and fixed up there and this is missing and that is missing". I would have used the low-quality missing songs from the second source as bonus. Come on, this is a collectors CD only concert collectors will buy. And even they won't play it on an everyday basis. It is not made to compete with the SONY masters box. So why not fill it up with the missing stuff from the other source? At least as bonus songs. I would make me say: "It's trash but at least I have this date complete in my collection". Lucky enough I have this show as free CD-R for years in my collection.

Elvis didn't sing Funny How Time Slips Away in this Show. The Disk is rongly dated. Also the bonus songs. Correct dates will appear in Sessions 4 by Joe Tunzi. Sound is also just soso. Good shoe, though. I'd say for collectors of such stuff its okay.

Ciscoking, you made mention of "Sessions 4" book by Joe Tunzi. When will that finally be released?
Ciscoking wrote on February 17, 2016
Later this year and all correct dates will be included.

Ciscoking; I'm glad you brought up the subject of "Sessions 4". We may never have found out from Joe himself anytime soon. Do you have any input on this project? And thanks MemphisFan for asking the burning question.

I am doing the complete bootleg section there..studio and live with hundreds of titles. It will be out later this year..Joe told me. So lets wait a bit.

I'll gladly buy the Elvis Sessions IV book, but only if the price is reasonable. There are probably others that feel the same way.

Ciscoking wrote on February 19, 2016
