The Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Experience will honor Elvis Presley with a Hollywood-style “Walk of Fame” star at the MAEE in Meridian. Details will be unveiled Friday at the annual birthday celebration at the Elvis Birthplace & Museum in Tupelo on Friday. Elvis would have been 81.

A public ceremony for the placement of a permanent Elvis star on the Walk of Fame is expected to be on Jan. 19 in Meridian. Tommy Dulaney, president of the MAEE’s board of directors, will present information about the project and the Elvis star placement during the birthday ceremony, which begins at 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

“This presentation is a welcome addition to our annual celebration and certainly if you think about Mississippi in terms of music think about Elvis Presley”. The MAEE is a state-wide project which selected Meridian as the location of the $45 million facility which will include exhibition space, state sanctioned Hall of Fame, Walk of Fame, broadcast studio, art studio, outdoor stage and courtyard. “Simply put, this project is dedicated to celebrating the essence of our legacy in the arts by recognizing and honoring Mississippi’s music, literature, drama, dance and the visual arts.”
